Title: Decisions, decisions
Post by: STEMO on 02 August 2024, 17:05:07
Coming to the end of our usual week away in North Yorkshire. The weather has been fantastic, a bit too hot for doggie if the truth be known. I don't really want to go home, I'm so relaxed when I'm here. Another cottage is available for next week, she hasn't managed to let it for next week. She has offered it to us at a very reduced price, I am sorely tempted.  :-\
I'd have to cancel a couple of things next week, including the MOT on my astra..... :-\

Do it!  :y

See if you can get the Astra MOT'd in Yorkshire if it's going to run out while you're still there.  :)

We had a routine visit to my Dad in North Yorkshire last month. Phone pinged as we sat down on the plane “ Dads had a fall and is in hospital” flew straight back. He is out now but a step worse .At 97.6 yrs old it is all downhill.

On the plus side we have escaped the hideous heat back home 40C and a min of 30. It has been quite hot here. Yesterdays rain was a novelty! Last saw rain in April

Saw the Spanish Galleon in Whitby and Scarborough harbours. Everywhere is lush and green. Yorkshire folk and of course the tourists are so lucky.

We have got a VW polo auto ( free upgrade) on extended hire. A mixed bag. Brakes are either on or off and mrs V correctly observes it is always jigging side to side without steering correction.  Very different to our Golf auto.

Old and frail parents are a tough deal. Dad had to wait until my step mothers Mum's dementia got to the point she didn't recognise my step mother before he moved from Norfolk to Orkney. I think she only popped back to Norfolk to bury her... Which first struck me as a bit cold, but made some sort of sense upon reflection.

However, I do wonder if he'd known he'd only be alive another year if he would have gone sooner or not bothered :-\

If it's too hot, you could always try further north ;)

Had a look at next week's weather and it's a bit shit. We could stay on and brave it out, but it's the type of place that you really need decent weather. So back home in the morning.
Astra is at home, Tigger, we are in wifey's car.  ;)

On the up side, the Mrs still has four weeks off, so might be able to sneak a few days up here later in the month.

Remember to bring home a stick of rock for everyone. :)

Tried to buy a stick of “Edinburgh Rock” today from both Scarborough and Filey to take home for a friend. None available!

Did have lunch up at Olivers on Olivers Mount. Never fails to delight with splendid views over the South Bay and castle to boot. Then drove around the rest of the motorcycle racing circuit. Brought back memories of Saarinen and Agostini err years ago. I swear they leant the bikes after they became airborne on the long bottom straight.

The best view in Yorkshire and possibly the whole of England is having coffee at Ravenscar Hall but I am fiercely biased. ;D
