Title: Thinking of getting back into an Omega
Post by: omegod on 08 February 2025, 12:37:00
Hello peeps, long time no post

Having forgone an extravagant 50th birthday present I am having niggles to get back into something older, I had considered a Renault 19 16v but keep coming back to another Omega , I've been on here for years and owned at least a dozen, last being a resto on a 17k 96 2.5 manual that now resides sleepily in one of the best private collections and is probably the best Omega in existence, I regret selling it but am happy that it is where it is !

So... are there still any decent prefacelift MV6's still around or are they all now in Ireland ??

Edit: guy called Paul Mitchell owns it , aka Ballswing on Instagram if anyone does social media https://www.instagram.com/ballswing/

Alright, John. 50 is far too old to be crawling around under an omega on a cold winters day. Get yourself a warm coat, a pipe and a pair of slippers  :)

.

I gave up two years ago crawling under cars,  I changed the oil & filter on the Subaru we had at the time & then struggled to get out from under it ! The Range Rover is far too complicated for me & the Toyota will go to the main dealership for all work, so after 48 years on working on my cars I've called it a day.

A youngster then Rangie! ;D ;D

I have now got to 54 years of doing that, and I am now knackered! I am still aching from doing the HBV, oil and oil filter the other day ::) ::) ;D ;D ;)

Simple jobs once, but not any more ;( ;(

I take a more sensible approach these days, stretches before, plan carefully and know my limitations  ;D My back is screwed so popping gearboxes back on usually involves using my engine crane rather than lifting it off my chest from underneath  :o

I'm in the process of hard brake lines, flexi's & slave cylinders on my Smart Roadster ..... it's far too much crawling on the floor for an old git like me!  ::)

I'm the same age as Stemo and Lizzie waiting for weather to improve a bit then it's a clutch change on V70 after that's done it's back to the lock-up to restart work on Omega. Getting old may not be much fun but much better than the alternative

I did that for a number of weeks, making excuses as to why I shouldn’t replace the HBV and do the cam cover gaskets.  The sun eventually came out, and for one day the temperature reached 9 degrees so put numerous clothes on and did the HBV and changed the oil with filter. Thank goodness the cam covers did not need doing…………..yet!  ::). Got to just complete the work, and bruised, battered and feeling like 90 years old, limped indoors.

I am therefore impressed Baza that you are planning the works you are! 8) 8)

You young men!! ::)  ::) ;D ;D ;)
