Title: One for Marks DTM ....
Post by: Andy B on 24 April 2025, 18:28:04
When a Jag was a Jag  ;)

How labour intensive is it .... all done without safety specs or Hi-Viz vest ..... though I suspect that the journal polisher claimed a few fingers/hands/arms in its day  :o (at 4mins 15secs)

I think it was 1981. All the males of our family went to an open day at Jaguar. We went to the engine production, then the assembly line. All very impressive.

The best part was being able to drive the cars around a roped off area of the plant. Health and Safety would have had a fit now. I remember the smile on my “ elderly” father in law’s face as he got to drive a V12 Jag.  I think he was 75…………I gave several cars a thrashing on my own.  I bet you they don’t do days like that anymore but I may be wrong.

Helped my uncle to rebuild a 3.4 engine in my school holidays 1969, cylinder head by the fire and valve guides in the freezer 🤣, Howells in Cardiff was shut over the weekend for parts so four of us equipped with a micrometer and wet or dry had to sand down the little shims that go under the cam followers😳 only one or two thou on a few but it took hours it’s unbelievable how taking just a thousandth of an inch off can take over an hour😢

The Mk 2 3.8 litre and 3.8 S-type  took part in more bank robbery than just about any other car. :-\

PC plod in his Ford Anglia or Cortina was never going to catch up. ;)

Fibber. >:D

Although the 2.4 was pretty slow.

The 3.8 is the one to go for.

Personally, I've always been fond of a V8.  :y
