First Ive heard of it.
Sounds like an April fool thats three months late.

As I never, ever, ever read news pop ups, and I never ever, ever watch the news on TV, surely DVLA should be writing to all drivers to notify them of these changes. :-\ This is the first I’ve heard of it and I’d imagine that will be the case for a lot of other drivers.
I still have a green paper licence as I haven’t moved house for 42 years, so I had no need to renew it. It gives me a childish sense of pleasure when I’m asked to produce my licence, as they still can’t check that it’s actually me as my licence has no photo on it. ::)
Whilst I see it as a good idea in theory, the cynic in me says it’s a way for DVLA to get everyone to have a photo ID licence and get £14/£17 off every driver over 55 every 3 years.
I have an annual eye test anyway, and since my heart valves were replaced with plastic bits in 2022 I have heart check ups periodically, but I’m sure that the opticians and GP’s will levy an extra charge for proof of eyesight/medical check.
So to conclude, people can still drive like an absolute idiot providing they have decent eyesight and proof of a medical check. ::) ;D

Haven't seen or heard anything about this, and never seen 'empofish' before either. :-\

Also I see a mention about Digital License
-
.....
. It gives me a childish sense of pleasure .....
Me too. ::)
I'd to show my licence one time when I was given a courtesy car. The young girl had never seen a paper licence before .... she looked as though I'd just handed her one of the dog's (full) poo bags ;D
-
The links look dodgy to me ??? .... however, in theory, it should be a good idea. There was a telly programme on Channel 5 recently-ish https://olderdriversforum.com/2025/05/26/channel-5-documentary-cause-of-death-licence-to-kill/ highlighting the fact that drivers who should declare eyesight problems are not doing so. One old bloke (88?) knocked over & killed another old bloke ..... it turned out that the driver had had a detached retina in 1 eye & macular degeneration in the other. You're expected to be able to read a standard number plater from 20 meters .... this old bloke had to be 2.5 m away befoe he could read it. DVLA had not been informed

From driving licences to nookie within 4 posts, quite impressive. ;D I have to be careful as there isn’t enough blood being pumped for both of us. ;D
