Nearly went Tesla Model Y, but MrsT really did not like everything via the screen, including the gear shifting. While on LEX, I think I spotted a good deal, as prices go up and down considerably, even day by day. Silently paranoid they will cancel it, as the deal feels to good to be true. Basically just getting an upgrade....
BMW i4 M60 in Fire Red.
Comes with loads of kit as standard being M60, such as the adaptive suspension and other bits. I ticked an electric tow bar and upgraded sound system as optional on top of the standard M Performance stuff.
Lord Opti should approve, as it has a rather practical 601bhp, perfect for that daily commute :D
Was the same price as a Tesla Model Y, which has a list price of £25k less than the M60 ???
-
I guess you now need to get a charger fitted....
-
or get used to rank, overpriced coffee ;D

As Carroll Shelby was fond of saying when it comes to horses.....Too much is just right. >:D
Sounds like a good choice. Mrs Opti's milk float has to make do with a paltry 400BHP and doesn't feel excessively slow.
Is this the same car Jimmy has?

I have an electrician who is local, we had a 30 min chat a few months ago about all the regulations, whats changing, requirements, types of charger. So yeah will be getting him to install one.
97% of my journeys I can charge from home, we go a few times a year to Wales but once there we stay there for a week or so. So I can granny charge it there, no concern on time limits.

What does Jimmy have? M50 has been out for some time, M60 is new this year.
As with the wonders of LEX the M50 was considerably more than M60 and M60 was only a fraction more than eDrive 35 base model ;D

What are the monthly payments?

What are the monthly payments?
As it's "Salary Sacrifice" - It's all based on an individuals tax status, but for me, if I said to the government I'd like my money or I'd like the car instead please, based on that it's £430/m to me.
That's all inclusive, the car, insurance, maintenance, tyres, road tax and 10,000 a year miles allowance.
All I need to do is put some electrons in it.
-
Wow - that's a bargain and a really nice car!
-

Oh no, yours will be a rocket ship compared to mine. Mine is the iX40, so the big SUV with a mere 325bhp. That's instant enough for quick overtakes so I can only imagine what nearly twice that will feel like. Enjoy it! :y
Yours also has a bigger battery than mine, plus its less of a lard ar$e so I would imagine 280 miles in normal driving should be achievable. How long have you got to wait? Looking forward to seeing the pics.
-
That's a nice looking car Tunnie! :y
-
Will post some pictures when it arrives :y
LEX says December. But shall see, been chatting to a few folks here who ordered cars. It gets passed out to the dealers and sometimes they offer you different ones from cancelled orders or stock they have.
-
No long then :y
Our delivery date got moved around a fair bit but was on a much longer timeline than yours to begin with (c9months iirc). I'm also intrigued what you're planning to tow. 0-60 tests with the caravan attached? ;D
-
Check carefully as most sparks cannot install chargers (requires C&G 2921 or equivalent, and some specialist test kit) and many of the charger suppliers require a certificate to enable the smart capabilities and warranty on them

13 month wait for delivery of M240i in 2023 delivery. :-X

Mostly ticked for the bike carrying option, we have a roof rack for the Zafira, but lifting bikes up there is a pain.
Towbar mounted racks look much easier and also don't have to keep a roof rack on there all the time. Fitting roof rack takes time, hammers mpg when not in use etc.
Bonus is I could rent a trailer locally for camping trips and take a load more stuff!

He is fully authorised and mentioned how they now check every single install. He stopped doing them for a while, because they kept changing the rules.
Other option is getting it via Octopus, I need to check actually if they allow another company to do it.
-
Nice choice. :y
You'll soon be known as Tunnie Two Coupe's then. :y :)

We have the Octopussy 'Zappi' fitted. Works well enough and comes with a 3 year warranty. £999....although free charger deals can be had.
Just noticed. Another 2 free hours of electricity tomorrow 12-2. :y
-
Nice!
-
We also had Octopus do ours and can't fault them. Came when they said (initial am/pm slot with a call 30mins before arrival), did a good job and when I had an issue with my smart charger - lost signal so was no longer "smart" they came out and replaced the unit with the same level of service :y
I can't speak to cost as the charger came as a package with the car, so it was "free".
-
Sadly, LEX, I need to source my own :(

So me, a man without a pot to piss in, has to pay £1000..... and you, a man with unlimited wealth, gets it for free. ::) >:D ;)
Life is so unfair. ::)

Ah, my mistake, I thought you were keeping the 435i and getting rid of the other one, but that makes sense now. :y I like the F32/F36, it’s a nice car to drive. :y

I use Thule Wing Bars for the Roof Box and Thule 598 quick release cycle carriers for the bikes. Once you’ve set the bars up, fitted the fitting kit to the threaded holes under the roof flaps, you’re good to go. Probably takes around ten minutes for the bars and bike carriers once you get used to it, and then the bikes, which isn’t too bad as the 4 Series is low. The Thule 598’s just slide into the T Tracks in the bars and clamp down wherever you want them. :y
I never really took to my towbar cycle carrier as I needed to fit my trailer board as the tail lights were partially obscured. As you say though, the towbar will always come in handy.
Pros and Cons of towbar mounting :
Pros : Less height to lift them. No height restrictions when parking. No wind whistle. Quick to remove when not required.
Cons : Awkward to fit some bikes. Men’s bikes are easy but women’s/Childrens bikes sit at an awkward angle due to the down tube, thus obscuring tail lights which then necessitates a trailer board, which adds time. They also need strapping on. The bikes will bounce with road imperfections and road humps.
Pros and Cons of Roof Mounting :
Pros : More secure during transit. You can (allegedly) travel at high speed when they’re on the roof. ::) Quick and easy to fit in the racks if you’re able bodied and takes seconds to strap the wheels. You can stagger/alternate bike directions to get more bikes on the roof bars.
Cons : Obvious height restrictions when parking. Takes a few more minutes to fit the roof bars. Square roof bars can whistle, whereas Aero Bars are quieter. Some may struggle with the extra height required to lift the bikes. Takes a bit longer to remove when not in use.

This is one of my big issues, with the Zafira already being a tall car. Entering car parks is a pain, there is one near my I use with the kids and I have to park up outside the carpark. Take the bikes off and then drive in.
First world problems! ;D

Does it come with the B58 lump?
Possibly one of the best engines ever produced.

Presumably depends on the year. The 1 series cut over from N55 to B58 in Sept 2016. My m140i was one of the first with the B58, and yes, favourite engine in any car I've had, shame about the electrical gremlins - I still miss that car :-[

Tunnie’s is the N55 engine, not the later B58. :y

Not an authority on the N55. :-\
B58 revs sweetly to 7000RPM yet has stump pulling torque low down. Max torque at 1900 RPM on my car.
Also 40 MPG if you drive like Miss daisy (or Mr Tunnie ::))

My E92's had the N55 engine. It was still a very good engine. :y
-
Yes N55 lump, can generally squeeze ~30mpg on the work run, that includes much stop/start work.
440i would be the B58.
I am biased, but the N55 I think sounds a bit better.

Yes that rack, I've seen them or though not that specific model for a more reasonable ~£100-200 ish second hand. Depending if I get 2,3 or 4 bikes. Looks much easier for the odd trip out with the kids.
Good choice of car as well, the M50 :)
Don't see many of the M60's yet but it's only been out a few months.

I had a detachable rear storage bag for my bike that claimed it was only good to 70mph. I know for a fact that it was good for double that because a bloke down the pub told me
I think the roof box I had for my Omega stated something similar, but that bloke down the pub never tried beyond 130....

Octopus hated by decent electricians as they do the cheapest easiest installs with terrible workmanship - CU's installed outdoor or in the meter cupboard (not your property - belongs to the DNO), incorrect RCBO's etc etc.
-
Interesting to know, another friend had an EV charger installed by their Salary Sacrifice provider. They had no option, had to be them (not sure who) and they did a poor job.
Electrician I've been using always does a top jobs, so will get him in next month.
Had a build date confirmed with BMW, should be here mid-December :y
-
Which year though ? :D

I found that its totally dependent on who does the install, mine is not an Octopus charger (its Shell) but the installer was still crap.....it was improved by me running the cable (under the floor boards rather than half way around the house).
Be aware that the property owner owns and is responsible for the meter cabinet and can install whatever they wish within that space as long as it is compliant to regs......however, the DNO may refuse to work on their part of the install if the space is compromised as a result......which is where it becomes a grey area :y

So my chap was saying he does not put anything in the meter cabinets any more, at least here he was instructed not to put anything inside the cabinet as the provider owners that. For things like extra meters that may need to go in etc. He would install it outside the cabinet on mine

The clamp meter clamp and control box will likely have to go in it, as not going to be easy to get to a Live only cable anywhere else.
-
He implied the control box would go directly underneath or to the side of the meter box as it cannot go inside the meter box itself.
-
I'm also going to go untethered, so that I could easily replace the cable if damaged. My understanding is tethered, if damaged/driven over etc, harder and more expensive to fix.
-
The plugs can potentially wear out, but you're right, it's easier to plug a new lead in than rewire it :y
-

This is. How my install was done. If your interest stretches that far I can take some pics next time I'm out there. :y

The box for the charger, and the smart meter and all it's gubbins for the house share the same cabinet.....although it is about 8 feet wide so plenty of room.
