Am I alone in disliking the way US fads are adopted over here?
Maybe I am too traditional, but I like the old ways — like Boxing Day sales and the like. But WTF is Black Friday in our British culture? Does anyone know?
My email inbox is jammed full of Black Friday offers. Grrrr!

British consumers love it. Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Amazon Prime day......except they all last for a week, not a day.

I don't think Guy Fawkes was American, Ron.

Faulks? ¿What’s that ? American English auto correct.?
Saw a shop ( FNAC) today with 50% off during pre Black Friday month. (More English words entering everyday use in Spain) My first thought was they must be going bust. Wouldn’t surprise me as it is a book shop!

They like to see the 'color' of our money. :)

Black Friday is the biggest money maker for most retailers now. Even more so than Christmas.
It might be a silly american idea, but any retail business would be absolutely radio rental not to join in.

SWMBO has been out & bought a few Xmas pressies, reckons she's saved over £400 but what she's actually spent I've yet to discover..😄

Christmas? No.

Christmas? No.
Oh yes it's started already Steve, our spare bedroom always looks like the inside of an Amazon delivery van around this time of year, I'd really hoped to be spending time in Spain over Christmas but it looks like I've lost that argument.

You probably should remind her that the stuff is bought in by retailers for the event, so it's not on sale. Preferably before she bankrupts you ;D
