Title: Merc MAF code
Post by: Jimbob on 01 February 2026, 16:53:14
Ive got a P010162 code : MAF sensor 1 has a maulfunction.  The signal comparision is faulty.

Car is in Limp, EML on and wont clear
W212 OM651 engine

Ive checked all the hoses I can see, had both boost pipes off, HP one was changed last year as it burst.
Can see, or feel, or anyway detect an air leak anywhere.  Used light, feel, very basic smoke test (bottle full of smoke near inlet)

Any ideas what next?  I fear its an inlet manifold swap which doesnt look huge fun.
Luckily ive a little project car I can drive while I work on this.

DPF diff pressure very low and yet there is a back pressure of over 1 bar?

What state is the EGR?

Untouched in my ownership!

Fill level of DPF = 180% ? That doesn't sound right, although I know nothing about diags on that car.

I beleive ash / soot differences, and full is about 400% but could be wrong

I can be of no use ;(

My W212 was dealer serviced. My involvement was limited to brakes and tyres.

If you clear the codes do they instantly return, or only when revved/loaded?

The code is saying the MAF is not seeing the weight of air it expects for the engine operating conditions, that is usually as a result of gas getting in/out when it shouldn't (hence the question about the EGR as if it is clogged/stuck shut then the MAF would expect to see less air, if stuck open, then the MAF would expect to see more air, remembering that on a diesel, MAF is open at idle and closes as boost comes on)

The code just doesnt delete.
EML goes out when i reset, but comes back next start.

This car hasnt needed much doing to it in reality while ive had it, so blockages building up anywhere are more than possible.
Had a DPF sensor a year or so ago, and that failed charge pipe.

Given that EGR and its cooler needs to come out to get much further, makes sense to look at it first.

Seems to be a commonish fault of Inlet manifolds breaking around a 2nd bolt, having watched vids of both, think egr gubbins counts as a lot of what needs removing to get near it
