After some of us hijacking the "Opps' Never going to live this down thread", I will continue the subject of the Lotus sports cars in Wills Gold Leaf colours red / gold.
The nearest picture I can find after trawling through a load of photo's is this:

This is a 1971 Lotus Elite Sprint, in almost the colours I remember, but with a solid band of gold down to the under panels below the red. ;)
Can others remeber these and can provide true pictures of the cars this struggling lady is thinking of?? :-/ :-/

Is that the one that caused all the trouble, with the fans and skirts on to hold it to the ground (not sure if the fan was true or just a rumour)

Don't know about that, but I find it a great drive as it has wonderful road holding, lovely sounding engine, and cute vanity mirrors on the sides of a stunning black body, which no current police car can catch! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
The of course there is THIS....Nope-lotus sunbeam 2.2 twin cam. :y

scrap the HS, it's gotta be the twin cam HSR every timeThe HS was a twin cam - 16 valve. the only difference under the bonnet between the 2 was that the HSR had dellorto carbs as standard.
but a 2.3 (not a 2.6). the 2.6 was a single cam clubmans type engine (iirc.) :yQuotescrap the HS, it's gotta be the twin cam HSR every time
HS is a 2.3 twin cam, the HSR is actually a 2.6 revamp, some in twin cam and some in single cam guise (for rallying)
Only 50 Factory HSR produced, all twin cams

The HS had 175 strombergs as standard, but when they were changed for twin 48 dellortos with a blydenstien tubular ex,manifold and lumenition ignition, the power went up from 135bhp to abot 170.
ate lotus sunbeams for dinner. :y
We had both cars at work.
The Lotus Sunbem gearbox was shocking, I went out in it as a passenger, couldnt stop the wheels spinnig in the 1st 3 gears.
I think the sunbeam had the ZF box .the HS had a getrag box -good gearbox but the dog leg 1st was a bit of a pain, and the standard gearshift arrangement was crap. The stick came off in my hand many times.

They were very light.
Much better with gas struts and resprung
Now all you blokes typically have talked about any other car other than my original question ::) ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D about pictures of the late 1960s/ early 70s Lotus sports cars in the Will's Gold Leaf Cigarette livery that was applied to them and F1 cars if I remember correctly.
Do any of you have pictures of these to put my head to rest over if these existed or not please? :-/ :-/ :-/
I am sure they existed by my hunt for pictures has darwn a blank. :( :(
Thanks for whatever you can find. :D :D :D :y :y :y

I am not dreaming of these then ;D ;D.....and the Lotus sports cars in this livery? :-/
Lizzie,
the Lotus Europa you are thinking of, was the black, with gold coachlining, and was the 'JPS' (John Player Special). These were made when the old Colin Chapman lotus F1 racing team were the world champions, and their F1 cars were the same livery. (there used to be one at Beaulieu Motor Museum)
The europas were a limited edition, and had three 'champion car constructors' badges on the rear end, as lotus won the constructors medal for three out of four years in the late sixties/early seventies.
Dodger. :y
