Title: Computer question
Post by: Dazzler on 26 September 2008, 14:31:43
Is it possible to connect a printer direct to my Broadband router, so that it can be used wirelessly????
The router only has ethernet connections but i have noticed you can buy a converter to make it USB.
TIA

not as such, but you can but adaptors to make any printer wireless, one of these may be better

You will need a wireless bridge with either a printer server built into it or a separate print server.

Something like this......not recommending that particular one, just an example  :y

2 things you need:

1) some kind of print server, eg JetDirect type thing

2) Printer driver MUST be networkable.  Business printers generally are, cheaper end of consumer end, inc cheap all-in-ones, generally aren't

if you turn on printer sharing you can use it that way but the PC it is connected to has to be on as well

printer will require a print server or router with a built-in print server. cant just plug it in to the router unless it has some kind of proper network interface - converters wont cut it.
