There may be members in your area who would be willing to offer assistance.
Interested to know about your experience of being ripped off.Probably best not to name names on the forum though. :y

thats fraud.....if you can prove they knew the HBV was at fault....and that's where the problem lies.....

Yep I've seen the HG replacement when it was the HBV. Still they guy that got ripped off could well afford it so I wasn't sorry.

I live in stevenage, I might be able to help depending on problem

ok , i've finally got to the bottom of what went wrong , the engine light came on my dash so i looked in the yellow pages and found a mobile mechanic , he seemed very efficent and came out 2 hours later i was told by him the cam belt was slipping so he arranged to come back 2 days later but said i must buy the parts myself which i did from euro car parts in stevenage , he came back at the time stated and started the repair , i had to go back to work so paid him and left him to it , when i came home from work there was a big sign on the car seat saying do not start i then tried phoning him but i have never got an anwser since , so i had another local mechanic collect the car and take it back to their garage , they told and showed me that the the cam belt had been just rested on the engine and the water pump which i supplied had gone and the old one was still on and that the problem had nothing to do with a slipping cam belt but with the camshaft sensor , basically the first mechanic charged me £275 to opps my car up and i had to give the new mechanic £100 to put it right and supply and fit a new camshft sensor. so it cost £375 for a new camshaft sensor basically oh and a dent in my bonnet , not bad considering i got the car for £200

I'd go straight to trading standards with his details if I were you. Possibly the small claims court too.

Yes I agree don't let him off whatever you do!
-
While things are fresh, keep what evidence you can of the work he did, or failed to do. Write down a sequence of events, when you tried to call him, etc. while it's fresh in your mind and save whatever evidence you have. Get a statement from the chap who put it back together saying what he found too. It's a shame, in a way, that the car has not been left how he left it or at least some photographs taken but you can argue that you needed it sorted.

I agree too... what a barsteward >:(
-
Keep the 'do not drive' note.., that should be proof enough that he took the money and didn't fix it and left it in that state. Court can just take a sample of his handwriting and see he wrote it. If he appears at all of course. together with the bill from the garage and the cam belt bill, that is proof enough that he didn't fix what he was supposed to.

Yes I agree with all previous comment; go to Trading Standards and take out a claim at the County Court which is very cheap to do. :y
I would also add, to make it really hot for this person, go to the Police and report the theft, which unless he was to return it it is, of the water pump! >:( This guy deserves more than just civil action against him; he deserves a criminal record, it he hasn't got one already! ::) ::)
This shister must not be allowed to get away with it!! >:( >:( >:(

It is people like that, that give any trade a bad reputation, far two many in my experience. >:(
-
too right lee......................get sequence of events down on paper while fresh...............dont let this guy get away with it >:( >:(
-
problem is this person will also hurt too many after, if not punished >:(
