hi does anyone have any tried and tested tricks for getting rid of stale cigarette odours from a car? did a search and found nothing... i remember someone saying leaving a lemon in a small bowl of water in the back overnight would help and giving the upholstery a good clean but wondered if anyone had tried anything else? advice appreciated. thankfully its not my omega that reeks...

i think you have answered it, you can mask it with that fabreeze stuff but itll only mask it for a while, i used my bissel carpet shampooer & done the headlining with carpet shampoo in really hot water & a cloth & wiped it all over, worked quite well, i have seen cars with pot puree in the ashtrays but again its a mask rather than a cure.

yeah sounds familiar... the pot pouree trick is what is in the car and thats starting to fade leaving a mix of fags and 'hint of woodland' or whatever the hell it is! :o

Someone once told me that leaving a bag of charcoal opened out on the back seat for a while was good at absorbing niffs. Never tried it myself but might be worth a shot.
Something to do with that left-over charcoal now the weather has turned to sh1te. ;D

i bought a car a few years ago that had a rotten stink in it [viva], only found out the problem when i took the back seat up, found a gammon steak that according to the packet had been there 2 years :o

I've been told that you can remove smells by covering all the carpets + seats with baking soda and leaving it for a few days. Then just vac it all up.
Dunno if it works, never tried it ::)

baking soda
That should be bicarbonate of soda ;) :y

Firstly I wouldn't leave water in the car over-night as some will find its way onto the windows and you know what a bu$$er that can be. Baking powder is a good bet but you'll probably find that a lot of the smell will remain in the head lining material as smoke generally goes upwards. Not sure how good Fabreeze is, but anything is worth a try! Good luck :y

When i brought my omega i had the same problm but instead of me fat assing about with buying diffent stuff i just took my car down to my local big car wash place and for £20 i had the whole car cleaned inside and out and the seats and headlining all steamed cleaned best £20 i spent on the omega

Try using one of those £10 aircon cleaners.
They remove a multitude
just aircon on, press the button and leave behind the backseat for 15 mins, come back to a fresh smelling car.
-
Its not easy to remove that smell permenently.
Oust! works reasonably well, then coupled with the mirror dangling fresheners that the Koso's put in when they wash my car ;D
But you will have to keep doing it.

Vaxing does work

my mate forgot about a half eaten apple once, in a bag under passenger seat.........it nade a good air freshner....if you like the smell of apples ;D ;D
-
or, just a good valet with upholstery/fabric cleaner.......you may have to do it regularly, and eventually the 'stale' smell with not be noticeable, and yer car will smell fresh :y :y :y :y

Eating pork pies and Heinz Beans will get rid of ciggy smell, replacing with something equally obnoxious.
If you don't like Pork Pies, just invite Jimbob along....

I would definately give the air conditioning "bomb" a go as previously suggested. The spray off those things gets absolutely everywhere and does leave a nice clean smell. Also everytime you run the a/c blower it pumps a nice fresh smell into the car. Eventually the fags smell will fade its just living with it in the meantime.

Start smoking a pipe. :)
-
ive no sense of smell, doesnt bother me, but the smoke does a bit, makes me eyes water.

I used one earlier in the year as recommended by a few on here, because my Mig developed a stale smell & it worked very well

I wonder if some of that training shoe deodorant sprayed in the car would work? Perhaps a few good sprays with the aircon on recirculate would kill most of the bugs and freshen up the smell?
-
The pros use large industrial filter/ionisers and let them run over night
-
No point at all in covering up or sealing in the smell as it allways comes back.
Most effecient way is an interior valet with an upholstery machine (a darn site more efficient than a vax ever will)
Roof lining could well be the worse source. :-/
Best Air Freshner I ever saw was a roduct called vent fresh, 2 drops in each vent and when the heater came on the smell was better than any dangly freshner. Lasted for ages but was expensive.
The cheap way round getting rid of the smell is to leave the sunroof and the tops of the wimdows open at every oportunity and let the fresh air get to it as often as possible. :y

Annother way is to put a dead fish under the passenger seat then there wont be any smell from the ciggies to worry about. ;D ;D ;D ;D :y

Better still, put a live fish under the seat and the flapping about will mask the sound of the rattling from the door lock buttons. :D
