Mine's green, but never been near South Mimms in my life.
:o
Just goes to show some Miggy drivers are awful, like the very dirty gold/champane one that goes down Allington lane most mornings about 7am and 3inches from my bootlid in the fog/mist/rain, he must have the best eyesight of any driver I have ever seen. ::)

Is that the 'rat run' just down the road from Fair Oak to Botley? knew it well once, cutting through in a Ford Cortina from 1976 to 1982, with other drivers just like that one you metion! ;D ;)
Back to the thread, I have a green miggy, and I travelled down past Minns Services................
.......................................over ten days ago and my miggy is a 'W' reg! ::) ::) Phew!! ;D ;D ;D ;)
Its fits my description........
.....but I dont go south of the gap!
Plus, I would be driving fairly sedately to conserve fuel.
One question, how do some lorries get round the speed limiter, had a Uk registered one pass me at 70+ this morning (40ft Artic)

Whats the deal on A roads? Some crawl at 45mph, some do the full 60.
same sized trucks too.
Once was past by a nicked 40ft Artic, he was doing 90+ :o

Hi Lizzie
It is indeed, except it goes from Fair Oak to West End now. You must be a very well travelled person, in fairness to the road it can be fun at the right time of day, but not in rush hour madness. Allthough it was once a country lane it is now a normal main road that is busy most of the day.

That is how I remember it Mike, and actually I really meant West End not Botley; my memory nowadays!! ::) ::) ::) ::)
Yes as I was brought up in a Royal Navy family that moved on average every 18 months over 26 years, then being a business woman who controlled areas / regions / divisions spread over the whole of the South of England, then the whole Country, you could say I am well travelled!! ;D ;D ;D ;)
I revisited Fair Oak about 8 years ago and couldn't believe how much has changed, especially with houses everywhere and new roads! :o :o :o
When I first moved into Fair Oak (4 Brook Road) the village was separate from Eastleigh, and gradually we saw building start to connect it all up, and now........ :o :o :o :o :o :o

Brook Road is about 1/4 mile from me, I'm in Yew Tree Close (small close of bungalows off the Winchester Road)
My parents moved to Fair Oak in about 1967/8 I was about 2 or 3 years old and I am still living here now :o
Wanted to move away but wife won't allow it, her family history is here, and she has a relative in virtually every old road here.
When we grew it was a village, now it is a small town with all the small town problems :(

Firm I used to work for had a 2800 DAF that was said to do 90, it was fitted with the diff out of a coach.QuoteQuoteIts fits my description........

National speed limit for a HGV on single carriageways is 40 MPH.
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Highwaycode/DG_070304
.. and I would be very surprised if a HGV engine was still pulling at 90 MPH. They have quite narrow power bands and I seriously doubt they'd be geared to do significantly than the governed speed. Otherwise the top couple of gears would be redundant.

i knew a paddy whose magnum480 could change down a gear at 110kmh but with a diff so high he didn't have torque to get needle off clock at 125kmh. and the git still wouldn't tell me how he overidden the limiter.

i used to have a M reg fh12 500 volvo that used to blow the fuse on limiter regular as clockwork and it would go of the clock with ease with a trailer on it , bit freaky when you was driving on limiter and next thing you started to overtake cars at 75 -80 mph , used to get 4-5 m/g ,1400 ltrs went in 3 -4 days ,wasnt so bad when it was 60 p/ltr but got silly when it was nearer 80p,only problem going that fast is trying to stop it ,hard work and scary at 40-44 tonnes .QuoteQuoteIts fits my description........

I once saw a car try a get the better of an Artic on a roundabout. He (the car) was in a rush and wasnt prepaiered to wait, the Artic was allready taking a big swing and just drove straight accross his bonnet like a tank. I actually thought the car driver got what he deserved. ;D ;D ;D :yHe did. The lorry driver has the right of way on the inside when turning.

Is your 'W' reg MV6 a white ex-plod, with two aerials on the roof by any chance? :D I frequently see it around South Ashford if it is and it has impressed me!:y :y
