Title: Favourite winter warmer food/drink
Post by: hotel21 on 12 December 2006, 12:37:39
The weather round my way over the past few days has been really dreich (good Scots word, means dark, wet and windy) and prompted me to make my favourite winter warmer food - a large pot of home made broth using a ham shank (no Theo, your safe, its a pigs knee joint or part leg...) dried broth mix and a load of fresh chopped winter veg.

Just sitting down to some now...

Anyone else with a favourite?  drink, soup, main or pudding - whatever you enjoy most, generally, over the winter?

You know what I mean - if its [favourite thing] time, then winters here....

discuss......

The ex-missus makes homemade chicken or turkey soup to die for  :y

Boils up the carcasses to get the stock and meat off the bones, removes the bones then adds loads of veg, lentils  and other good stuff - best soup in the Universe!!  :y :y :y

.........and the good thing is, she taught me how to make it  ;) .......can't get mine exactly the same though but working on it.  :)

Real dark winter beer, the kind of stuff you chew!  :D

You had better try Burton Bridge - Thomas Sykes Beer -- 10.2% draught  :o

It's got my vote .          (http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n21/iggy21_2006/minisanta.gif)

Muligatawny soup or a big bowl of chilli, served with a granary french stick. You can't beat it for warming you up after work on a cold day.

Don't you just love it when these fancy restaurants call simple everyday food ridiculous names just to make it sound more exotic or enticing.  :-?

These suggestions for winter warmers got me thinking on what we've not had for ages and, as the sh*tty weather continues round my way and, budding Gordon Ramsey type that I f**kin am, have decided upon a simple sausage casserole for dinner this evening.   ;D

Real thick, chunky butchers beef sausages, large chunks of onions and, 'cos I'm lazy, I threw in the carrots as well.  Will be thick onion gravy as well.....  Having big baked potatoes in the oven at the same time to save the washing up.

Winter certainly seems here at the mo'. [smiley=vrolijk_1.gif]

although not my favorite winter dish, when your working outside this time of year and your missus brings out a hot steaming pot noodle and your almost numb fingers can grab the fork whilst your other hand is warmed by the pot it seems like a little piece of heaven. Keep 'em coming sweetheart
