Unfortunately...
I have committed an unforgivable, fundementally awful sin, for which I will probably lose any respect anyone ever held for me.....
.......
I have......
FITTED A PATTERN EXHAUST TO MY V6 [smiley=evil.gif]
In all seriousness, I could not afford anything else at the moment and mine had just fallen off, so I bought the cat back system (2 mid sections, and backbox) from "Eternalcar". They are an ebay seller, but I bought it direct from their website.
The total cost, including delivery from Germany, was only around £100. Hats off to them, it arrived around 3 working days after I ordered it.
For the money, I expected it to be extremely cheap and cheerfull, and noisy to say the least.
I fitted it to the car tonight, and it appears to be very well fitting. The build quality and seams are all sound and it went on seamlessly.
I fired up the engine and was a bit taken aback - it's silent.
Been out for a drive, and given it some beans on the dual carriageway - and I really can't fault it. It's as quiet as you like, easily as quiet as the new GM system I put on my other Omega some time ago. Performance also feels excellent.
The only question left to answer, is what the longevity will be like - but for what I paid, I think it's well worth the money - and a very good compromise, especially for slightly older miggy's. :y
***Prepares for a ribbing.......!*** ::) ;D ;D
So... I am hugely impressed, it seems like real value for money.

Yer pays yer money and makes yer choice. Only time will tell if it's true value for money. :-/

You must also consider, the duration I usually keep my cars ;D

Very true, but from reading your threads you seemed to give the impresion this one may be longer term. :)
-
I'll find it in my heart to forgive you, im good like that!!!
Joking aside not everyone agrees with what i do to my Migs but the main thing is they're on the road, not scrapped or bangered. That's all that matters in my book. :y

I must say, there are no intentions to get rid - and I may gas it when my life settles down a bit. :)

Good for you James for thinking outside the box ;D ;D
In terms of longevity remeber you could have 3 of yours for an original on TC. I reckon if you get more than 2 years out of it you are quids in.
-
Watchout for the post count depreciation !.
No, I had a pattern one fitted to my last Miggy; it lasted a long while, 3 or 4 years and wasn't particularly noisy. For those without an understanding/bankrupt bank manager, they fill a useful gap. :y :y :y

Will be interested to see updates on how its doing.., say yearly anniversary updates he he!
-
WHen are you selling the car ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
bet you went for the single tail-pipe box for that price ;)
-
Ive used Eternal car for their boot liners, always good service :y
-
having just bought a cat back system from vx and seen the new superseeded construction compared to the original. I think its worth looking around. We could be missing something. I have some pics to post up when i have time.
-
Nothing to be ashamed about. Needs must. Sounds like you got lucky. You can normally tell when you've got a poor pattern exhaust about 50 yds up the road.
Incidentally, I managed to revive the battery in your jump starter - I think.

It's worth a punt James it'll be interesting to see how it "pans out"
-
as others have said, you pays yer money.....
i see nothing wrong with pattern parts, so long as the expectation is that they may not be to the standard of genuine, something most sensible people understand
-

Nope - Twin exit :y
-
You've got to do what you've got to do mate.
Genuine would be nice, but not cheap though. As long as noise and performance are ok what the hell.
-
I brought an exhaust off that company about 6 months ago for my old bmw e30 for about £80 as it was nearly £400 else where and thats without the fitting but for the price it was very good and still is to this very day
-
Cheers James. I know the GM is best but money is tight and £100 saved is a lot right now.
Eternalcar mid sections & back box ordered, £116.95 all up.

Well just to mix things up. I fitted a pattern rear and 2 mid boxes on my meega 2 years ago and whilst it was up in the air last week I had a gander underneath and it looked pretty good still... I feel the cat will go nexxt but then it only has to last me 4 more weeks :y
-
I dont know why people are so anal about pattern parts. Some are as good as the man. parts and, after all, you're only putting them on an omega.
-
I sold my 2001 Omega with its original exhaust and battery, both were in good nick and no sign of trouble.
I guess these things last longer these days than they used to...
In the olden days a 6-years old backbox and a 6-years old battery were unheard off...
-
And well done for getting it all sorted for £100!
