hi guys i was thinking about buying a 2001 x plate omega but it is a cat d and dont no if i am doing the right thing. i have been told that the only thing wrong with the car is that the front bumper has slight damage. what do you think a good buy or not.

Such things can be economically viable but really depends on what the damage is. If you have no experience of such things you really need someone to overview.... You could easy buy a cash lemon.....
-
Can't comment on the car's condition obviously, and you probably know already that it will be difficult to sell on, but what I can say is that 2001 X is just below the radar of the new VED so if the car is salvageable it is worth it...

Sorry, should have pointed out that this is more relevant if the car is a V6....

the car is a 2.5 v6 cdx 24v 82000 miles and the seller wants £595 for it. nothing else wrong with the car only slight damage to passenger side front bumper.

As a rule of thumb, an insurance company will pay out a cash salvage to the owner of circa 17% of bottom book.
If the seller is the reg owner and the insco wrote the car off, he will have retained the salvage rights at that 17% value from whatever larger value the insco put on it. IE values at £1000, salvage value £170 ish, so gets to keep the car and get £830 as well.
The straight (non cat D) value of that car is not a lot, given trim, age etc but will leave that to others to comment on further. I think the price quoted you is too high..... :-/

ok thanks i am going to view car on tuesday so maybe i can get the price down a little will let you no the outcome. . ;D

I was in a similar position and checked with my insurance company and was told that they would not insure it. This could be a good avenue to check first. Again I was told it had something to do with the fact that an insurance company had paid out on the vehicle previously.
Good luck either way.

Surely that applies only to full-comp, or F&T, but it should not matter for a basic 3rd Party only...? :o

Mine was cat C (b*st*rds) but cost the same as my excess to repair (bumper, bonnet & wing).
Paid it out of some released finances!
They will write anything off so buy it
