Title: Scrap the 4pot cambelt DVD
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 11 October 2008, 21:12:13
Is anyone in a position to make a 4 pot cambelt DVD?

Having glanced over the original one I'm not happy - narration is too quiet (hence unclear) and I'm generally unhappy with it.

Can we scrap it, and get a better one made by one of the experts? :y

The review comments suggest it could be improved...

http://shop.omegaowners.com/index.php?main_page=product_reviews&cPath=3&products_id=21

but people do appear to find it useful.

The admins will decide whether to continue selling it - won't be for a week or 2, as my PC is fubar ;D

My vote is to stop selling it.

It was created in a rush, after I'd already done about 5 cambelts. Lighting was poor etc... and I didn't narrate it properly, mainly because I was trying to get the job done on TD's car quickly.

I would urge you to scrap it :y

I won't be in the slightest bit offended if we do decide to pull it - I'm the first to admit that the circumstances at the time were not ideal to make a DVD.

Also, I'm probably not the best person to do it. While I'm confident enough to change belts, I am very nervous with a camera pointing at me ;D

Not seen it so my 'needs remaking' is a bit of a 'lemming' vote.

But I have just seen the 6 pot video and it is really good. Marks DTM does a great job, both of the cambelt itself and the explanation of what is going on.

If anyone can persuade him (or James) to do a 4 pot, I would be happy to do the video - or just pass spanners etc.

Have watched the  DVD once and whilst it could do with a bit more naration but it is still a very worhwhile aidee until such times as "change a cam belt by numbers" DVD is made. Thumbs up from me apart from the fact that it makes me appear to have two left hands! :y :y

Phew! I'm with the majority .... I've NOT seen it so can't comment. Having dome SWMBO's Astra I can't really see how you could go wrong anyway ..... 2 locked cams, a water pump, a crank shaft & a tensioner. ;) :y :y :y

Perhaps Robin Hood might support a bit of camera work again as he did a fantastic job on the V6 one.

General concensus is the V6 one is far better, but the one we have is 'OK' until we can get 3 things together to remake it:

1) Marks DTM
2) Robin Hood
3) 4 cylinder car

oh, and

4) a day when the planes aren't so bloody noisey ;D

Does it have to be mark? While he's clearly a good filmstar, If it means getting it done quicker, I'm sure there are hoardes of people on here who can change 2.0 cambelts :y

On the subject of the V6 Dvd - am I right in thinking is misses out one step at the end? Was it intentional?

Filling the car up with coolant afterwards?  ::)
I may well have missed out that step too  ;D

The DVD does show torquing of the pulleys. In fact, Mark double checks them

Edit - just checked - it shows refilling of the coolant too. After the engine is run up...  ;D

The concentric ones and the tensioner, yes it does - I think Robin hood was referring to the auxilliary pullies (which incidently, I never use a torque wrench on, just a sensible nip :y )

I've seen it and done the dirty deed.

Voted as good enough for now.

Was good enough for me to know I hadn't missed anything crucial, have the "book of lies " for the torque values and recheked the tensioner position 5 times to get it to be in the right position after rotation of the engine.

300 miles later I am happy that it is right.
