new v old construction, note the new ex silencer is not chrome or slash cut as per original, not that you can see the chrome on this poor example.

I can see it says GM on it, but did you get it from a dealer

yep. on trade club...£311 with the odd nut an bolt...
-
i think i was lucky, i bought cat back for my 2.2 about 2 years ago, was exactly like the orginal. Slashed bits, same construction.
Mine had the angled exit like the old one too, with the chrome tip, so was pleased.
Dads 2.2, 1 year later, was the cheaper build. felt cheaper than mine, no chrome or angled exit.
-
has the exhasut been able to retain its quiteness that a VX one does?
-
Guarunteed for life - silent - made to measure - stainless steel from LongLife.
£350 from cat back.

I've still got my 3.2 back-box sitting in the garage. It is in marginally better condition than your old one. The pipes would shine up nicely; you can have it if you want.

that looks crap like a cheap bosal/timax copy mate !! gen vx exh usally are double skinned :o :o

my original exhaust is 6 years old and new one costs £300 to replace, so your £90 jobby can last 2 years ish for the same money. I bet it will last double that, 3 at least. On reflection, i am not certain i would go for genuine again!...
looks like i am no longer welcome either James? :-/

dont kick him out until ive done my lpg, if i ever get round to it, i might need his help...

It looks to me like the newer Vx exhausts are as cheap and nasty as the normal pattern stuff but at least 4 x the money >:(
-
Discovered mine's blowing at the front of the back box too today. >:(

so what ll it be Kevin? Cat back twin pipe ? 2.5 single pipe? Cheapo after market or custom made joby?
Or Albatrosses buggered old back box he was trieing to flog me?
-
Decisions, eh? :-/
I like the look of albatross' one. :-* Then again, could get a few 90 quid pattern ones for £350. :-/
I think it's one of the mid sections that's gone where it joins the back box, although the back box is also rotting around the tail pipes.
Other option is one of my comedy baked bean tin repairs. :y

Yeah, i considered that, but when i got under there i realised i would need a 50 gallon drum to fix mine.
-
Kevin,
Given the age of your car, and recent LPG, guess its going to be staying for a while. I think i would go down the stainless route, Albatross's zorst does look verrry niiice.

Mine has gone exactly the same as Chris' below.

If you ever wanted to check my exhaust out and see how it looks and sounds I could meet up to let you have a gander. It's not much more than the genuine GM parts all in at TC rates. That Long-Life price was inclusive of VAT.
-
I just bought a Vauxhall system for my 98 Elite & it was a pattern part not OE had to shell out for it prior to ordering it but as I was expecting a like for like original part I though no more of it till I saw it.
A cheap repro part!!
2 year guarantee for £296, trade club. I could have got an identicle Walkers one with 3year guarantee for £169!
So anyone fooled into believing vauxhall exahusts are better than pattern parts needs a reality check. Save the £125 & replace every 3 years if needs be. Far more cost effective. Never again vauxhall!
Oh my two tail pipes are painted black btw
-
Interesting then. Going on the pics, and recent opinions, are we going off the "new" batch of genuine exhausts?
I cannot rate my pattern "Eternalcar" system from Germany highly enough. It's faultless. Quiet (even when pushed hard), durable, well fitting... and for £90? Can't go wrong, IMO - especially on an 8 year old barge that is depreciating quicker than you can blink... :y

This is a really common place for them to go.....
My 2.5 one went there and the 2.6 one is showing signs of failing in that area......
However teh 2.5 one was the original and failed at 120,000 miles and the 2.6 will most likely last that long as well, so all in all i can complain.
I might get a stainless one made up

i think if you have 2.6 or 3.2 it "might" be worth concidering the more expensive hand made stainless option ????
Reason being you can have an extra lambda sensor socket built in behind the cats to hide the pre cat failure issue that is common on these models, pedal trick code 0420/0430, not sure if 2.2 hase the same issue. i think albatross had this done on his 3.2.
haveing said that thers no reason why you cant have it added to any new system...
can anyone advise that the lambda position will be ok that far back inthe exhaust? not sure if the sensor wires will be long enough but i guess that can be sorted?

Me too. My 3.0 Eternalcar one (back box and both mids) was £116 delivered. I was surprised how heavy it was. Much thicker gauge than pattern exhausts I've used on other cars.
It is quiet but there's a subtle bassy note to it that I like.
Thanks for the original post on that one James - saved me a packet. :y
-
When I ordered my gypo system from the local factors, (looks identical to those cheap looking GM ones) they gave me a choice of the cheap ones or for around 300 quid some "better looking ones, with clam like bits".
I went over for a look in their catalogue and the more expensive ones did look just like the original old vx system, with all the extra ribbed silencer shell and fancy end.
Come to think of it, my cheapy ones might even have GM stamped in them too, I'll have a look after work
-
Well when I replaced the middles & rear box on my old motor 3 years ago it was a walkers system, with all the ribs/square boxes with 3 year guaranteed for £170 ish. They have stopped doing them now cut charge a similar price.
Bloody price of steel to blam i suppose ::)
