Title: Wills and Harry
Post by: Olympia5776 on 18 October 2008, 20:40:18
So the daring duo are off on a 1000 mile jaunt across South Africa on motorbikes.
Can't quite see the economic sense in it though because according to BBC news 85 riders hope to raise £235 K for charities.  ::)
Travelling along with our intrepid heirs to the throne will be a full compliment of Royal Protection officers with back up in case of injury ( 'cause they are also on motorbikes )and a full medical crew which will no doubt consist of something a little more than a first aid kit with sponge (on a motorbike ?).
Add to it the cost of the media crews ,vehicles and satalite time  plus  getting there and back etc and I wonder why they all didn't just stay at home , endorse the event and make an enormous  donation to the  total sum raised .
Off course if they did Wills and Harry wouldn't have got some world wide PR and a little holiday out of it would they....?

Will they ever learn ?

Well -- bottom line, they are two healthy young men with the wherewithall to go and have a bit of fun -- Best of luck to them ( although I do see the economics arguement -- however, by simply endorsing the event they would be able to actually enjoy i!).

If they get themselves killed -- there are plenty in the queue behind waiting to take the throne (given a nuclear holocaust wiping out the Royal Family as we know it... even some OOF members might be up there!).

It would be a great loss though, as they are the only two (known) Royals actually entitled to the Throne by bloodright.

But -- same as the army fiasco -- if they ARE going to do these things why broadcast the terrorist oportunities so widely beforehand ???

Thats my point, I don't think for one nanosecond that there will be any danger of these two being harmed by even a low flying sparrow because every inch of the 8 day route will have been security swept prior to and during the event by an enormous amount of highly trained ,skilled and expensive personel.
I would like to know the true cost to the taxpayer for this little jolly especially when we are being subjected to global financial meltdown .
I hope they have their money in the Channel Islands branch of an Icelandic bank. ;D

I've nothing against these two "Gallant Chappies" If i could have bikes security etc. laid on for me i'd be off like a shot. I'm not anti Royal as such, no one asked to be born into such a world (glad i was'nt) but i still say in the days of hardship some are living in..............  Maybe Granny can pay for her own home refurbs? I have to pay for mine. ::)

They don't own a lot of their properties, but they are such a good figure head compared to a politician.

Two words to turn the most ardent republican

I sincerely hope you are right Olympia, but even American presidents surrounded by more security staff than we will ever know about still get assassinated, and even whole army divisions are struggling to contain both the Taliban and Al Quada. :-X :-X :-X

The princes really shouldn't be putting themselves and others around them at such risk at, as you state, enormous..........public expense. >:( >:(

No-one asked me if I wanted to donate to the chosen charities, but I, and all British, taxpayers will be indirectly with the costs involved at a time when the military funding is under increasing threat.  I hope they do raise massive amounts for charity, but surely there was a better way to do it! ::) ::)

OK, rant over........... :D ;)

Politics bores me as does Jeremy Drone, sorry, Vine. No interest in figureheads etc & as said not anti royal either but when folks are getting laid off & evicted from their homes owned or otherwise it's a little ripe for her ladyship to go begging. All the revenue the "Family" generate does'nt directly help those who are really in the shoot. ::)

Personally, I make that one. I'm not so sure about Harry. ;D

I totally agree about economics. The costs are hidden (in our pockets) so they don't count.

Many rumours floated around regarding James "Ding Dong" Hewitt fathering Harry. No one can say for sure & he's always answered with a diplomatic "no comment" when asked.
Given Harry's Gung ho approach to life (which i quite like) I would'nt be at all surprised or bothered, good on 'em!

Yeah, true. William is Charles through & through, same as our Queen.
I've seen the documentaries from when she was a young girl called Lillibet to her coronation & she's been a model of composure to this day, as has Charles (mostly) & I believe William will continue the line of self discipline. On the other side we have,
Philip, James & Harry, see a pattern emerging? ::)

I noticed this years ago when everyone was on about James whatshisface, I couldn't see it - all I could see was a junior version of Philip - Harry is so like him that there is no way Charles is not his dad.
