aye we sold hers for £450 as it had only got 80k on it and never ever had a headgasket! so its a good K Series engine! 1.4 aswell so it had cheapo tax!
front subframe! swmbo will be living without powersteering then!!

If you do drop the subframe, don't try to avoid undoing the bottom of the steering column ... like I did ::)
I doubt she'll want to drive it much then. The 'fan belt' went on my Astra, which, for what ever reason knocks the power steering into touch, it was REALLY hard work driving it home.

Have PM'd JamesV6 see if he wants to fix it for me! subframes and me dont mix

Because the power steering pump is driven by the same belt.

Lol....yep, subframe off job.
Once its off its not so bad but removal requires support of the engine etc.
Matchless did one not long ago.
As for the aux belt (its not a bloody fan belt!) failing and knocking the power steering out, thats because the power steering eats loads of juice and hence when the alternator is not running its noticeable!

I would think an electric steering pump is easier to vary the assistance with than it is with an engine driven pump like the Omega's :-/
