I hate buying for someone else.....decided to get Mrs an alternative to the Safrane - its needing about £400 of work for its MOT - cant grumble as its needd nothing in two years.
Hard to get cars this time of year and for a second car we didnt want to spent much ( under 2k) wanted at least a 2 litre and nothing french.
Looked at a 2.5 cd omega - beautiful condition on a v reg. Got to say guys thats a seriously quick car on manual box!! feels quicker than my 3.0 mv6 auto....ultimatly at 130000 i felt it too high for the money - got him down to £1500 but walked away.
Looked at a 2.2 gls Y reg omega - wanted 2k but it had no history at 88000 and i couldnt believe how basic it was - gaps and balnks on the dash - single cd, wind down rear windows and a no trip computer etc!!!! felt it too basic and walked.
Third car and third vauxhall was a W plated 2000 vectra 2 litre sri. Unmarked body with Irmshcer side skirts, fogs, alloys and twin exhaust. Immaculate inside decent mileage and some decent toys inside. Sold to me for £1750.
May need pads and a tyre but at tc prices......cant be bad!!
So there you have it converted from rovers to vauxhalls.
And skint for christmas!!

Hmm the Omega was just run in!
Have you got your coats ready for the coat hook?

3.0 MV6 Auto. 0-60 9secs
2.5 Manual 0-60 8.2 secs
-
Yep, auto box does slow things down a bit.
3.0 MV6 manual... now that is a different matter, especially in the hands of Marks DTM :o
-
Of course, decent software on the g/box improves things ;)

3.0 MV6 Auto. 0-60 9secs
2.5 Manual 0-60 8.2 secs
Do you honsetly think 0.8 seconds makes any difference in the real world??
It takes that long to change gear in a manual!!
Be more interested to comapre the 40-70 figures where most peoples driving is done.
From what ive found a 2.5 manual elite its quoted at 8.8 sec to 60 not 8.2, and the GLS is quoted as 8.5, where as a 99 2.5 v6 CD manual is quoted at 9 secs. Where did you get the 8.2 from??
I went here (http://www.wisebuyers.co.uk/motoring/car-specifications/Vauxhall/Omega+%281994-04%29/VA002620/) for the CD
and here (http://www.wisebuyers.co.uk/motoring/car-specifications/Vauxhall/Omega+%281994-04%29/VA002608/) for the MV6

Doesn't take me 0.8 secs to change gear ;)
As Markie said, felt faster ;D

I can feel a manual ("I like to be in control") vs auto gear box debate coming! ;)
If the manual car was your own would you really want to do many full blown 0 - 60 times? The way they do them isn't exactly very mechanically sympathetic and would be rather expensive if you practiced them in every "Traffic Light Grand Prix"
-
Auto v Manual is very simple....
Auto, great to be driven in
Manual, great to drive!
;)

Since you mention it, think I've done that already ;)
Got quite heated actually

I know! ;)
I still think that Paul M should come off the auto/manual fence and make a decision!! ;D ;D ;D

Which is why i'm doing a conversion he he he he
Of course, decent software on the g/box improves things ;)
Hmmmm would this be worth doing until i start the conversion? and do you know anyone that could upgrade mine?
-
IIRC, TB said the gear box upgrade made the changes smoother, but didn't say it improved acceleration?
-
Which is why i'm doing a conversion he he he he
Thats gotta be a massive job?
-

Acording to that the pre-facelift MV6 is 0.3 seconds quicker than the Facelift version, ans some 35kg lighter!!! :o
-
from reading a few threads on here, it doesnt sound too bad a job. Finding a 3 litre manual donor car is the hardest part so for lol.
-
......
but didn't say it improved acceleration?
You can only stir a bucket of fluid so fast! ;)

I would even think of going there. :-? It must be far easier to find one that Vauxhall did in the factory. It might take a while but they do exist in colours other than white.

Phil, I really dont know the ins and outs of all the different permutations.
As you said earlier, 0-60 times are really academic. If i saw a 3.0 MV6 auto next to me at the lights, the last thing I would want to do is race it. I would be too busy trying to recruit the driver for the forum :y
-
Sounds like you got a pretty good deal m8
-

I haven't got any figures, as I don't have the old 0 - 60 times, but it certainly seems faster.
Mrs TheBoy (who doesn't drive it that much) was asking why when she drives it now (since g/box update), an orange flashing light comes on and the engine appears to splutter :o. So I then had to explain the principals of Traction Control to her, and that those rear tyres are over £100 each....
We I first did the update, I switched off TC, and was having so much fun coming off the roundabouts in MK. Naughty boy....
I would expect the newer software to increase 0-60 times, as there seems to be much less slip in the g/box.
I like a manual, they are great fun. But for my normal journeys, I prefer the 'point and shoot' of an auto...
-
LOL... my ears are burning ::)
I think I'll stay firmly on the fence and outta this debate!
BTW, the 0-60 times most manufacturers quote for manual cars tend to be quite conservative and aren't done with a proper "no concern for the mechanicals" type approach. I find them quite easy to beat by a reasonable margin even taking into account the speedo inaccuracy, but it's not the sort of launch you want to be doing on a regular basis ;)
-
but it's not the sort of launch you want to be doing on a regular basis ;)
....yes it is ;D
Nice find Mark....I've recently been looking at the Vectra SRi....report back :y

Best manual change I ever came across was the old Rootes RWD box - took fraction of a second to change gear
