Post by: Auto Addict on 06 November 2008, 16:18:29
Added some to the last tank of petrol, now ticks over (with air con on) @ .3 to the gallon instead of .4.

I use it once a year, just to clean the injectors.
The XJ-S went from 18mpg on a run to 20mpg.  Might not sound much but for a fast motorway cruise in a 20 year old V12 I was impressed.

I know it is only parrafin with some ATF added but it does work.

Really?
Then I'll start making my own!

They did a test on fifth gear I think and IIRC it reduces performance by 3% and does pretty much nothing.

I think that is what it is.  I buy mine, if you want to use my 'recipie' don't come to me when you screw your engine!  ;)

It may be coincidental, but I would imagine that 5th gear are hardly scientific, the stuff has been around for ages so I am comfortable with the fact that is not a 'snake oil' product.  The science sounds reasonable to me.  I would not use it every tank, but once a year for clean injectors seems a good idea.  I may just be a gullible fool though! ;D

I dissagree, used Redex on and of for years, used to be great at cleaning out carbon from the engine, take off the air filter and pour it down the carburetta, and watch the muck come out of the exhaust, think James Bond used to use it...... ;D

pouring old brake fluid down the carb neck had the same effect....

Looked like a WW2 destroyer or Corvette doing an antisubmarine smokescreen for an Atlantic convoy!   ;D
