As i'm on the lookout for my newest family member i'm afraid its time to let an old one go and i'm planning to let it go with a bit of fun .
I am the not so proud owner of a very tired mv6 3.0 and rather than drive it to the scrapyard i'm going to try an experiment and i need some advice an oppinions please.
what i plan on doing is filling the spare tyre with pure oxygen from the oxy acetylene kit and plumbing the tyre to the plenum chamber via i tap. if i survive that i will take it to the old waste ground and open the tap whilst driving . if i can increase the oxygen mix will i increase the power out even if it just for a couple of minutes .
-
I'm not sure what the engine management will think of all that coming in, after the MAF. I doubt it'll give you any extra fuel to compenste therefore - hence just c**king up the mixture!
-
Maybe less than a second

"Air traffic control, this is flight 275,you arent gonna believe this but I swear I just saw the back end of an old vauxhall come flying past".
:o :o ;D ;D
-
i don't think the volume will be sufficient enough to effect mixture i'm thinking along the lines of the concentration of oxygen from 20% to say 40% ?
-
LOL. I like the way you're thinking. :y
Either
1. A poor man's NOS kit without the N and S
or
2. A Darwin award.
Either way, you will be famous. :)
-
or i could feed it into the air filter box . does anyone have a spare can of hydrogen kicking around ;)
-
You know what happened to the old airships like R101 and the "Hinderberg" don't you? ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Boom!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;) Although they were filled with hydrogen, I reckon oxygen burns at a similiar rate in an enclosed space! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)
Can I come and film the event........I'll make a fortune selling the dvd! 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) :D ;) ;)
I promise I will pay for a nice headstone for you out of the profits! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)
-
I think you should sell it me, so I can use it as a track car ;)
-
Wont do anything....unless you add fuel to as the ECU has no concept of air with extra oxygen content and will be fueling based on the MAF reading.

wear a full racing standard fireproof suit!!!!!

Nearly wet myself when i read this ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D.

Aluminium will burn with 100% oxygen
-
but will the enriched oxygen environment not give greater combustion and so on :y
-
Point it at Spain please. I will use any salveagable bits to keep my jalopy going another year.
I don't suppose you are that bothered where your ashes end up?

the way i look at it is our atmosphere is roughly 20% oxygen the remainder is inert its only the o2 that is required for combustion. if i had a turbo charged engine and i fitted an intercooler the purpose of this would be to cool the incoming air charge thus increasing density and therefore increasing the volume of oxygen . however my plan is to increase the o2 volume without the drawback of increased inert gasses . am i making any sense or will i book myself into a self harm clinic . :-/
-
The point is, you can increase the amount of oxygen as much as you like but if the ECU doesn't deliver more fuel it will just go straight through the engine without making any difference. Turbocharge an engine, lower the intake charge temperature, etc. and the ECU can measure the increased air density, and add fuel accordingly. Add oxygen and it can't.
A tyre full of oxygen is very little, too, due to the low pressure it's at. An engine will get through that in a second or two.
I can think of more entertaining things to do with spare oxygen. And I have some, thinking about it. :-X

What about exhaust lamda sensors? Won't they increase fuelling.
Or just give a fault because of disparity with MAF sensor...?

Lambda sensors are not active under full load, which I guess it where the OP would be when he opened up the taps. The engine runs "open loop" in this scenario.

i could substitute the coolant sensor with a known resistance value to let the ecu think the engine is cold thus will enrichen the fuel mixture .
-
Give it up mate. it's realy not going to work is it.
PS. Can i have your 3.0 cams after you've FUBAR'd the rest of the car?
-
will it work or am i stupid !!!!!!!!!!!!
:-X
My mother always told me "If you don't have anything postitive to say..."
-
Wont Work Trust Me! not without the extra fuel as already said! where about are you? people on here buy dead/dying miggys
it could even blow the engine up to pieces 3.0's have weak conrod's
-
i'm in glasgow , its an ex plod finnished in lovely matt white all the brake pipes are rotten the hydraulic modulator is gubbed , left bank exhaust mani gasket is gone . :'(

I think it will not be very good.
Oxygen is a brilliant activator. It will increse the burn temperature and the expansion of the gases will be rapid.
I am thinking either melted pistons, or a lifted head.
I am all for stupid things being done in car, I have had my fair share of fun in old cars in fields etc, but I draw the line whn I think there is a significant risk of someone hurting themselves.
I think this may be one of those occasions.
How bad can your MV6 be! Surely it is worth £100 to someone for bits.
If it were me I would I'd sell it to someone here to help another Miggy live on, rather than hurting yourself. :y

To coin a local black country saying.... TUP!
