Title: How many Forum Members.............
Post by: holtender on 12 November 2008, 19:20:41
does it take to change a light bulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs

27 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulb

1 newbie to ask how to get one of those little pictures under your name

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as anal-retentive

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"

15 know-it-alls who claim *they* were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct

109 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum

111 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts *are* relevant to this forum

306 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty

33 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"

12 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy

4 to suggest that posters request the light bulb FAQ

44 to ask what "FAQ" means

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

143 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"

1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 9 months from now and start it all over again

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;DVery good, but you have missecd out one crucial factor:

us women members would comment on the wrong 'colour' tone (daylight-natural-white light- yellow light - etc etc) of the light bulb replacement in the first place!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

Its funny you should say that but............

Our fish tank needed a new flourescent tube. Now to buy from the normal sources costs a lot, but B&Q had some daylight ones in at a good price, so I got one. Its a different colour from the other ones , but what the hell. However we have been troubled with severe blanket weed ever since. Is there a connection ?

Yes Ken I believe there is. :y :y

Don't know much about keeping fish tanks, but I remember a friend having a certain type of flourescent tube that gave off light which controlled the alge.  All to do with ultra violet light if I remember correctly. ;)

Thanks Lizzie, We will try with a different tube. Fish tanks are very sensitive ecospheres.

They are indeed, it took us several months to get the balance right, and lost a few fish on the way :'( 9 months on though and needs very little maintenance........... :y

Yes, we have had the "add a couple of new fish, and killed the original lot".  :'( :'( :'( However we added 4 new ones to the depleted tank some time ago (to a tank containing one tiger barb !), and now have 9 !. We don't know where the babies came from, there didn't appear to be any males in the 4 but......... And the tiger barb hasn't attacked the babies yet. He must be gettting old.

Yup, worked in an aquarium specialist for years.

Not just you mate, lots of people do that....once ;)
only way is to buy a proper tube.
They do different coloured tubes depending on wheter you want to improve the fish colours, or stimulate plant growth.  There are also some jack or all trades tubes, which are generally the most popular, names like Triton / aquaglo  are good all rounders.
A lot of tanks these days come with 2 tubes, so you can have one of each type.
