Title: pay rise agreed
Post by: MikeDundee on 14 November 2008, 06:34:30
Well at long last the Union are still out for more of an annual percentage increase, but have agreed with employers to pay staff 2.45% and continue negotiations. So will have a nice lump of money in the pay packet this month backdated :y

Sorry but i have no sympathy for those who fight over a percentage or two on their pay rise. Think yourselves lucky to have ANY pay rise let alone moan about how much. Try 4 years on the same money. Yes i could drive for some of the firms in Immingham for another £50/100 a week but the hours & conditions are bollix & i do get perks to compensate which help, ie car taken for Mot while im @ work inc de cat pass, free use of car trailer if i want to collect/deliver a vehicle, car storage & more. My Gaffer's more like a mate. Been there years now & i do get an easy life & a few hundred in the bank every week, so it's my choice to stay.
Still moan at him now & again though!!!! ::)

I am now on the same money as 20 years ago, which is half what I was on 4 years ago. I have no problem with an employer paying any employee a large payrise if the busines can afford it. I do feel very strongly though that no public sector employees should recieve any payrises. No offence to anyone intended, its just the reality of the real world today.

Well good enough for ministers etc to get pay rises, so good enough for me, i doubt very much they would ever agree no annual percentage pay rises, as currently the inflation rate is above the pay rise given, as is the case every year, and if they decided not to provide annual percentage pay rises then potentially after 20 years or so your salary would be worth nothing. Obviously there are perks and benefits for working in the public sector hence why I moved from the private sector almost 16 years ago now, as i ended up unemployed back in 1991 albeit for a short spell, hence the move to a lower paid job all those years ago, which has paid off in the long term for me :y

As I said Mike,no Intention to have a go at you or any other individual.
I think if Gormless and the rest of his government were on performance related pay, they would owe us a fortune, but they have apparently employed an extra 700,000 public sector wprkers in the last decade and God (or gordon) only knows how the country can foot the bill.
meanwhile in the private sector, annual pay rises and final salary pensions are almost unheard of.
But if I was in your shoes would I decline the pay rise when it was offered ?, no chance.  :y

Well that ain't gonna happen ;D.............This recession has kind of spoilt my plans for the next 5 months due to the plummeting pound and the affect it has had on the exchange rate, which has in effect knocked off almost 3k, meaning I have had to slightly adjust my budget, So the annual percentage pay rise is most welcome, as for the incremental pay rise well that's performance based and part of my contract :y
