Title: Socket 1366 - Intel i7
Post by: Mr Skrunts on 15 November 2008, 10:24:41
I see the Socket 1366 - Intel i7 Boards and CPU are hitting the shops.

Does this mean that the days of the Socket 775 are limited?

Though at the end of the day, it matters not, as the majority of the userbase change the entire base unit at upgrade time, as its cheaper and you invariably end up with a faster more stable system.

Downside at the moment is that it is too exspensive for most home users.

CPU Start at £220+
Boards start at £175+ from what I can see.

Plus they require 3 x memory.

As per usual I stall be waiting a year of so for the market to settle and prices to drop.

As said, makes sense to buy an entire base unit, than go done the expensive upgrade route. With each new generation, you need new chipset/memory etc to get the best from it, so makes sense to upgrade entire unit every time.
