We crossed Amsterdam on a tram not long ago - made the underground look tame ;D

As tunnie will no doubt confirm, I detest London with a passion.  My hackles go up as soon as I cross the ring road.

I would love to say lots of nice things about public transport in London, but I can't think of any. At least once a week the tube staton at Victoria has the gates closed due to overcrowding on the platforms and even at the currently quiet period on the mainline trains it is unusual to go a week without at least one problem. We had one last week where a derailment meant no trains out of Bognor so the 4 cars at the back of our train were dropped to go up through Horsham/Crawley resulting in our train being standing room only before we had even reached Hove. We then had a call for doctors/nurses and had to stop at Three Bridges for an ambulance. Got into London 40 minutes late and yes, the underground gates were closed.

Although it is not perfect, the transport system in London has a lot going for it, with frequent buses, tube and overground trains, which I have enjoyed using since I was a child to get around the City in relative ease. :y :y :y

If only the rest of the country had such a linked up public transport system in place maybe, just maybe, more of us would use our cars less. ;)

Lizzie think you will find its well in place here in major cities Manch Leeds etc plenty of well organised bus/rail AIR too services in't North, use bus many times to get from my home in outskirts of Leeds to smaller towns in Yorks /Lancs  ...lets face it London is just too over populated  :y

Daughter works in city, lives just over 2 miles from work.If the weather is reasonable, she walks home rather than take the tube.
If I have to go into London though I can park at her place for free and walk across the road to the tube station.
Only do it when I have to though,as the place is becoming more of a dump every time I go. :(

Everytime I attempt to use the bloody tube, its SNAFU, so end up walking (from Marlyebone to the city).  Good exercise though.

Incidentally I regularly go from Paddington to Fechurch St and found that you can WALK along the embankment, and then tube from Bank to Paddington quicker than the circle line takes for the same journey.

WALK!

nothing wrong with the tube! just relax and its fine. I have been working in london for almost 18 months now

I get down to the platform, full train comes in, people sqeeeeze their way on.

Wait 2 trains, and its empty! Get a seat, with spares around you. Always go to the back of the platform.

I use the bakerloo, and its no issues really, only times its mega busy is when there are football riots games on
