Title: Re: Reasonably priced Parts?
Post by: VX1 on 30 October 2008, 18:59:52
As above, I work for a motor factor and I am thinking about speaking to the call centre manager about having a trade cash account for OOF members which will enable you to buy the parts that you need to keep the migs in tip top condition at a much cheaper price than getting them from the main dealer. Now most of you will no doubt say "Not buying from a motor factor" or "Motor factor parts are crap". Well just to let you all know that the motor factor I work for is the only factor that has BLOCK EXEMPTION.
Now if some of you don't know what this means it basicaly means that......................................

If you but a brand new car from a dealer you can use these parts WITHOUT it affecting the manafacturers warranty.   I here you say "That can't be right!! If the part fails surely I could take the factor to court?" Unfortunately you can try.......

This has tried to be done before BUT it never happened, this was due to the company I work for had the evidence to back them up which was rigorus testing on the parts. So you may by all means look it up on google but it has been proven. I also here you ask "OK whats the company called?" Well the company is called MOTAQUIP, which is part of Peugeot. So like I say I am thinking about asking if this is possible, BUT I will only proceed if there is enough interest. There is a poll at the top of the screen so please vote.

There is a member of the forum that can testify if needed as he has had parts from me already and hasn't got any complaints (Yet), no, I am sure he is very happy with the parts he has had fitted which was a cambelt kit, Waterpump and antifreeze and his car is still running. The forum member is Mike12735 (I think thats his user id if not also ask RobseyMv6 or Mc1t)

Thanks for reading this post your comments are welcomed and any questions will be answered as honestly as I can.

Don't see why not if the parts are good quality. Anything that makes the upkeep of our cars a bit cheaper without sacrificing quality has got to be good. :y

Be nice if you could give a few examples of dealer, factor, and your prices....

Yes, I use dealer for some parts, factors for others.

Sounds a good offer you are making, be nice to know how it really compares.

Count me in!

Like others on the forum, I am feeling the pinch at the moment so I have gone for pattern parts to get my car through the MOT.

As the price of Miggies continues to fall, our membership will increasingly become more cost conscious and therefore more and more likely to go for that option.

It has to be said though, that TC prices make GM parts competitive with general motor factors, so I will watch with interest what the discount works out like.

Thanks  :y

I think its worth looking into.

Personally, there are some parts I'll always use genuine, and some parts I'll use pattern.

Some eg prices would be good :y

It may be usefull if some or one of you more knowledgeable members give him a list to quote! i.e Cam Cover Gaskets, Cam Belt, Water Pump, Plugs etc etc. then someone may be able to do a price comparison if he can't, 'cos they'll be competing against TradeClub Card.  :y

No problem I will look into the prices for trade and try to compare factor price against Dealer price.

Thanks for the interest guys it is worth noting But please bear in mind I cannot promise anything, at the end of the day its down to head office but I can put it to them and ask if it can be done for all the branches they own.

Mind you if you wanted to you could go to the Motaquip website and check the part numbers and see what you can get.

Well worth asking the question, Paul. :y

I have used MOTAQUIP bits and pieces in the past as that's what my local factor seems to stock. No complaints about the quality.

Most of us obviously have access to TC prices at the dealers so it depends how the prices stack up. We should also bear in mind that some main dealer parts for the Omega (e.g. exhausts) are not what they used to be so an alternative source would be worth investigating IMHO..

Motoquip parts are good quality I must admit! Things like wishbones, springs, shocks, various balljoints are all perfect examples of where parts from a factor make perfect sense!

I'm interested, although I have a friend who works for another factor who can get parts for me if they aren't urgent! :y :y

Paul,

My forum name is mike213735....can't beleive you forgot mine but remembered Marti's and Rob's, I'm hurt!

Yes, my cambelt kit and waterpump are still going great, covered about 3k now and no problems. I was supplied with a Gates Powergrip kit by VX1.

Let me know how this goes. Don't forget to mention that we have used your premises for our mini fix it meets in the Reading meet section.

Oh, must go and vote.

Thanks
Mike (mike213735, in case you forget Paul)

Right just to let you all know that I have spoken to the call centre manager and he has put something in place. If you require parts from Motaquip please contact me first, through pm, and I will give you the password or you can phone me on 07900447752 and I will give it to you that way as well. You can use any branch that is close to you............

Witney, Oxford
Bristol
Melksham
Swindon
Newbury
Reading.
The person that you speak to in the Branch might need to speak to the call centre Manager as he know's about it, Plus you will need to say to them Omega Owners Forum as well.

Looks good Vx1. :y

I will agree with (the boy?) that some things really need to be Vx e.g. Cam cover gaskets and manifold gaskets, but otherwise brake parts (slightly controversial I know) steering components etc. are all generally good from motor factors.  Car manufacturers do not make every single part of a car, 80% of each car is sub-contracted in, and even if a part only lasts half the time, but is half the cost then consider it a spread payment plan  ::)

I just bought some HT leads for the car cost me £25 all in. Now these leads are made by Delco Remy so the price isn't to bad at all so expect to pay near that price for something like that. They have told me that the prices are going tobe good for forum members, so if anyone is to far away then I am sure someone on here would get them for you and post them onto you.

In theory this is a great idea and should be praised.

However in practice there are too few branches to be of use to most of us and they are in too small an area.

If it were a nationwide branch network that would be fantastic.

Well done for sorting it though mate and I am sure those local to your branches will be taking you up on this.

Hi,

Any more news on the prices, I've just found out that the cambelt tensioner is not available here in South Africa, so I'm very interested in purchasing some items, in particular

2001 Omega 2.6V6

OOF CamBelt DVD
Cam Belt Kit (inc tensioner)
Water Pump

I really need a supplier who can organise all the parts and send them to our shippers at Heathrow, they will then ship them over to SA, I have a UK bank account so can pay by bank transfer, or if preffered credit card.

Anyone any suggestions ?

Brad

Anyone suggest anything else whilst I'm doing the cambelt
