my mums ballvalve went on her cistern so had to go and replace, sopcock hasnt been turned off for about 15 yrs, must of took all of 2hrs to get it working, in a 8"x10" space. even on jobs its always the same problem, turning the water off :(

Yup, turn ya thingy on & off twice a year for good service ::) ::) ::) ;D
Edit; It's a bugger when you can't say kcoc >:( >:(

i connected isolating valve to the pipe in bathroom in case i need to turn it off again in the future :y :y

Might be as well to turn the water off in the road and replace the whole stopcock . You never know when you might need to turn it off in a hurry

i did have a look outside, theres so muck where the mains was i thought not, :)

mind you, the pipe coming out the ground in the kitchen is lead i was being very careful not to split it, must be 50yrs old now and didnt know how weak it was, i know my dad renewed the lead pipes throughout the house over the yrs butnever the mains coming out from ground, major works involved
