There used to be a removal tool on the Norton site .. not sure if its still there ..

if it's not there is one here ..right down the bottom ... no idea if it works or not .. :(

Trouble is, as its self modifying, and also some script kiddies have made minor mods, you are lucky to find a complete removal tool for specific variants...

It can be done manually, but only with skill, and ultimately not worth the effort.

its not a virus, hence AV software likely won't catch it

That's what I ended up doing after I got it a few weeks back.
Worth a reformat anyway, with all the stuff that builds up in your
computer.

After I had got mine back to it's previous condition, I had 10 gig more
disc space than I had before. It also booted up and ran so much
faster, that I thought the Pentium fairy and visited me during the
night and swapped the pentium4 for a core duo.
Wished I'd done it sooner. You don't realise how much your system
degrades, as it happens gradually and you get used to it.

I've just taken it off a friends PC - it exists in various guises - on his you could delete the exe file but on reboot it was back and running - traced to rootkit.  His tower is now clean.  Not a job for novices.

If you're unsure, reformat and reinstall.
