Title: Insurance question
Post by: paolo on 01 January 2007, 05:45:47
Sorry if this has been answered before.
I have browsed just about everywhere on the site now!..I loved the gallery...

I need to get insured for my 97 3.0 elite auto...i am 34..7 or 8 yrs ncb protected, car on driveway, 3 points....my best quote, with a stupid excess is £480....i always go fully comp protected ncb

where can i get some reasonably priced insurance?

So far tried adrian flux and confused.com

thanks

I'm with Admiral, very slightly older than you, more NCB, and no points. £280 FC.  Protected NCD seems to cost £70 - £100 more (and if you have a bump, even with Protected NCD, your premium will go up).

Incidentally, I pay less than Mrs TheBoy does on her Rover 25....

well...i am with admiral and i pay as a one off payment. Think it was about £480 last year.

However i only have 3 years ncb unlike your 7 or 8 years so maybe worth trying them

I've found you don't always get the best quotes using the 'find cheapest' websites...

confused.com sucks, takes years to enter in all the info they want, and never give you an accurate quote.

I am with Direct Line, 5 years NCB, 3 points, driveway here and in Hayes, London. £450 ish - Fully comp, and i am 22!! i know a guy who is 18 and lives in Hayes with a 1.4 Corsa and pays over 2k for insurance  :o :o

I found www.moneysupermarket.com was a very good site.

I paid just under £300 fully comp (full ncd) with protection which added about £25 to the total. I am with More than.

I am old though, and have a clean licence (somehow!).

Originaly with Admiral on the 3.0 Auto estate - £320 fully comp, 9 years no claims, no points and protected no claims.

However following my litle accident I have discovered the following:

1) A total loss (i.e. write off) against your insurance results in cancellation of the policy and loss of the full premium...if you pay monthly the outstanding balance is deducted from the payout

2) Admiral are rubbish at claims.....still not even got an offer.

When I spoke to them for new insurance against the 2.5Cdx they said they would do a special rate......£450! The guy siad I could have a courtesy car for upto 21 days in the event of a claim which was my fault....I said stuff it as thats no long enough for you guys to pay out!

Since got fully comp with RAC which takes into account the accident and the recent 3 points speeding offence for £290

I'm with Vauxhall Insurance. Paid £429 this year for my 2.5. Protected 9yrs ncb, on-street parking in London and six speeding points. Option to pay monthly.

Their number is 0870 024 0144

just tried moneysupermarket.com too and got £30 off my cheapest so far - £362 now. I'd even gone direct to the same company (Bell) and their quote is £40 cheaper through that site which was nice!
Cheers for the link!

Also when it comes to insurance quotes, what should I put for an immobiliser? I assume I have one but not sure what it is as you sometimes have to pick a type.

I'm perhaps being a bit stupid, but how do I know if I have an alarm?! :-[ I have a GLS but it has a lot of things other GLSs don't have, alloys, dual climate, front fogs, xenons, heated seats etc.

A quick way is to release the bonnet, but dont open
Then lock the car
I wait a minute to ensure active, then lift the bonnet

If youve got an alarm, its just got quite noisy, if its all quiet, then you havent.

.......
If youve got an alarm .......

.....You will have a bonnet switch towards the back on the passenger side.
......... (factory) you'll have the sonic sensors at the top of the 'B' posts pointing forwards and rear-wards.
..... you'll have a switch on the dash with a man running away that turns the sonics off.
