Post by: theolodian on 13 December 2008, 20:50:47
Where can you get it in the UK?  I tried Sainsbury's today, but all they had was some Dutch thing called Advocat.  Do I need to get a recipe?

Eggnog is your version of Aadvocat.  I think the Dutch have the original recipe......   ;)

Hmmmmm....speaking of advocaat (note the spelling, dimwits) I drank a whole bottle in my teens. When I woke up next morning, my face was stuck to the pillow where I had spewed in the night and it had gone hard. YUK.

Yeesh, sorry, saw it for the first time today.  ::) ;D

Eggnogg is not alcoholic in the US, it is fresh and in the milk section.  I loved it as a kid.  The alcohol can of course be added later . . .

We had it with lemonade.  Remember it being a snowball.

Were only allowed one as well, as I believe Adocaat is brandy based.

Sorry to be a Scrooge, but I imagine the alcohol would boil off among other problems.  ;) ;D

Yeah Snowball was the only alcoholic drink my Sister and I were allowed at Christmas.
With a dash of Lime, then lemonade, stir it, then a cherry on the top with a cocktail stick through it...

Yum Yum :y

I always used to get a small glass of advocaat at Christmas and occasionally when we had guests.  My brother used have cherry brandy.  Then when we lived in Holland, I used to buy the stuff regularly - my wife couldn't stand it, for some reason, although she can put away Baileys by the bucketful.

The Dutch make (and consume) some truly amazing liqueurs.  My favourite, though, is a German concoction called Kümmel, but I haven't seen it anywhere for a very long time.  Flavoured with caraway seeds, very good for the digestion. :) :) :)
