Title: RE: Coolant change & flush
Post by: kjon51 on 04 January 2007, 15:59:37
Thanks for the great new maintenance guide tunnie & TB.  :y

Quick Question - I siphoned about a litre out from the header tank 'cos I was going to top up with a litre of new, neat antifreeze. When I saw what had come out it looked good & fresh & pink & clean, (if you see what I mean). Is it safe to assume that my coolant is OK for another winter without further test or topping up?

Cheers,
John

only true way to tell if right amount of antifreeze in water is hydrometer...

The only safe way is to change it......over time the anti corrosive additives degrade, this may well not affect the colour until some thing starts to get 'eaten away'!

When I changed my coolant last summer, I ordered a new expansion bottle as there were cracks around the filler neck and I did not want to take any chances.

With a new bottle filled with the correct concentration of Red antifreeze (50/50 mix) it does look rather good in the engine bay!

I thought I had a pic of this, but can't find it.

Recommend fitting a clean bottle though.
