Title: some people are totally mental
Post by: Richie London on 22 December 2008, 12:58:35
went to a job this morning to fit 4 internal internal door frames and hang 7 doors. house looks nice from outside, all been painted, walls fencing gates and so on. went in the house, "good rather god" no plaster on walls, no staircase but a ladder leading upstairs, with 2 rungs missing and it swayed a bit from being a wooden ladder about 300 yrs old. upstairs the same, no plaster on walls. and also. not a frigging floorboard in sight. i went downstairs called the bloke a rather stupid thick c**t and walked out. and these people call themselves builders. i had to phone local council to tell them how dangerous it was there. i swear never in my life have i seen anything like it.

So basically the knob running the site wasnt bothered about their health & safety?

Any hard hats in sight?  If it's still in progress, as far as I know, they are required by law.  If not, report the guy.

The bad old days of 'corner-cutting' and lethal construction-site practices are never far away are they? :'(

yep, was hoping for extra money, instead cost me 2 gallons of petrol.
ive been on some dodgy sites before but this takes the biscuit. this is why i always do shopfitting, health and safety is always good,  dont like working on building sites or houses. usually too dangerous for my liking or 2 many thieves on there nicking tools.

Reminds me of 2 days "decorating" work I did on a house during a summer break from UNI. The "decorating" work consisted of removing 2 chimney breasts with a sledgehammer. I asked what was going to support the chimney stack and was told that I wasn't being paid for my expertise as a structural engineer, but not in such polite terms.

Same deal, shell of a house to work in with no safety measures whatsoever. Then we were told to make a huge fire in the garden to burn the rubbish, so duly obliged when the neighbour popped his head over the fence and complained about the angle of the chimney stack (semi-detached property with a shared chimney stack) and the fact that his hedge was on fire. :-[

The builder didn't give a sh!t so we went back to the agency with some tales to tell!
