Title: Any recomendations for a new wireless?
Post by: Taxi_Driver on 03 January 2009, 21:33:34
 ;D

Looking for a new compact hifi.......
I listen to the radio more than anything else, so want a DAB radio
With a cd player would be nice.....not fussed if its single or mutiple discs, coz that wont get used much.
Sound quality wise.....i can tell the difference between bose and 'el cheapo' .....but not prepared to pay bose prices.....so somewhere midrange would do....
Last thing is reliability......it would be left turned on for about 12-16 hours/day......daft really  ::) but i leave the radio on for Holly all day  ;D ....so its on when i get up in the morning.....on when i goto work and on for an hr or so when i get home.....till i watch tv.

Any suggestions  :-/

Well since el cheapo is usually an upgrade from Bose - no point paying more for less.

I'd suggest the usual Japanese suspects - try the HiFi companies before the general ones

A triumph of marketing over substance, they make systems over a thousand which compete against Logitec cheapies as an example.

Emporers new clothes - if people spend a lot of money they are going to try to justify their purchase.

Discuss VX Bose with DaveDND

As to home entertainment - it is quite poor - check the home entertainment forums.

I would be looking at spending about £150 to £200 on a small CD Radio with bookshelf sized speakers, from a Japanese brand I have heard of and know is reasonably good.

eg

Pioneer, Denon, Panasonic, Sony, NAD - that sort of level

These are very nice:

plus

Difficult to beat for a small DAB capable unit with MP3 playback.

As for Bose, they can sound pretty reasonable but take one hell of a lot of setting up and tweaking!

They would be a competitor if they were half the price!

They would be a competitor if they were tenth the price!

When they are around £1500 and the component quality is similar to speakers found on PC systems I'll take my chances with well know HiFi brands, I happen to have 5 full range speakers on my HC/HiFi and I wouldn't change to subsat for anything
