Post by: Marie on 05 January 2009, 15:53:36
i have just had the new policy documents arrive in the post to read the print to find out that my policy documents only cover me 3rd party fire and theft. and i asked for fully comp. the quote was for fully comp!!!

well i called them today to find out that to change it to fully comp i would have to cancel my policy loose my deposit (well 80%)and start a new policy and its £100 more a year!!!

god i am so angry!!! why does their website say one thing and then on the phone they say a bl@@dy another!!!

sorry rant over!!!

If they quoted fully comp it's their mistake surely? There should also be a cooling off period of 14 days where you can cancel without penalty, IIRC. Tell them that you'll exercise your right to do that unless they rectify their error (at no cost to you).

If you did the quote online, then it will be there and they can't go back on it.

Also ask for the recorded call tape, most companies keep call records now incase someone tries to be arsey.

Threaten them with the Insurance Ombudsman or whatever it is, state your case and keep at it.  And as Kevin says, if within 14 days, you can cancel it at no cost to yourself with full refund (minus the small period at which cover was valid).

I am sure that, if you haven't claimed, you are entitled to a full refund during the cooling off period. You don't generally get to see all of the policy documents and small print until it arrives on your doorstep so the safeguard exists to protect people who get sold something that they later discover doesn't meet their needs.

From the little I know about the legal aspects of insurance policies, I think you are spot on Kevin and there is indeed a full refund guarantee for the cooling off period of 14 days, and especially when "mis-selling" is involved. :o :o ;)

Might be worth having a read of this:

https://www.moneysupermarket.com/community/forums/t/cooling-off-period-14732.aspx

My policy says they "reserve the right" to charge a £19 admin fee for cancellation during the 14 day cooling off period. I wouldn't mind betting that, if you can show they didn't deliver what they quoted, you could get that waived too.

They are trying it on.

.. or even this

http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/insurance-assurance-companies/54523-post-office-car-insurance.html

Quote allegedly from the Post Office's policy document:

Quote
If you return the certificate of Motor insurance within the first 14 days of receipt of your policy documentation we will refund that part of the premium which relates to the period remaining after we receive the certificate. After that time the following rules apply:

No mention of a cancellation fee, so divide premium by 360, multply by the number of days on cover...

They should cancel for free within 14 days.

The initial period is set so you can review the policy details from the illustration provided.

As this does not suit your needs you can cancel without charge.

As mentioned before ask for contact details of the Ombudsman it will cost them £300 to defend any case and you nothing, so they will always settle after trying it on initially of course.

Sounds like they Fe*** up & dont want to admit it if you did online dont you have a copy of the quote or a number to access it always done it online since getting a pc mucho more info & cheaper than the phone, just done home ins same they matched "infact bettered" the lowest quote i got for cover i needed but that was with Churchill..     Cars with Saga once again though back in November went online got cheaper quote by £76 same company Saga website, then rang em ,they just matched it when i questioned them about it they just said i had got special discount for a new policy owner  but seemingly they still will give it after been with em a year (if you say your leaving ) :y
