Went out to the car this morning as usual, (06:30) started engine and turned on demistors. Picked up my ice scraper in readiness to clean ice from screen (-5Deg). Door closed behind me as I got out, and would you beleive it locked itself.
So there I am, car running, my bag in car, the house key on the key ring which is in the ignition. eeek! what now?
Eventually managed to wake Mrs Px by several phone calls and banging on front door to get out of bed and open the front door. (not at all happy!) I eventually found my spare key in the "Man" draw, and was able to open the car door. Phew!
Has anyone else experienced such a problem?
:o :o

Had similar on Mk2 cavaliers, a spring in the door lock was broken, and the slam would cause the button to drop. Bit embarrasing 10 miles from home outside the newsagents on the way to work. :-[

Happened to someone I know the other day in there Astra, ended up having to put the rear window through to get in!
-
I shall make sure and keep the spare key in my pocket in future

This happened to my Rover during an MOT test, up on the ramps with the engine running once. :-[

thats a real horror story and cant imagine how I will feel in an early morning.. sure I would break one of the backside windows :P

had exactly the same thing happen to my brother in laws miggy, it took us exactly 30 seconds to decide what to do,
we smashed the rear quarter light window as we had little choice as his car was parked on a main rd about 150yds away from my house
-
I've had this happen to me with a Carlton, now whenever I shut the door with the engine running I always open the window enough to get my arm in the car.
Once bitten... Never again...

That's yet another of my merivas little 'quirks'. P!ssed me off a few times but I'm very 'security conscious' ;) now and always make sure I take my key with me. ;D

Or keep your house key seperate to your car key so you can get back in the house for the spare car car.

Years ago these used to be a good idea. Maybe worth a consideration.

Just be paranoid like me and leave the window of the car open if you get out with the engine running! You'll never get locked out again!
-
Happened to many years ago in my mk2 cav.
The button dropped and door blew half shut - only problem was i was 20 miles from home parked on cullercoats sea front , it was dark and cold
In the end i snapped the ariel off and managed to lift the button :-[

I never use the car without checking that the spare key is in my trouser pocket. Jacket/coat pocket no good, as I might leave it in the car - not much chance of leaving my trousers there these days. Spare house key on spare car key ring. House and main car key on separate rings.
Paranoid? Me? Not 'arf. :)

I never use the car without checking that the spare key is in my trouser pocket. J...............
I'm not even sure where my spare car(s) is/are! ;) ;)

Never experienced being locked out a running car, fortunately. Have, however, experienced someone driving away with the car and the house keys on the car key ring and me stranded on the doorstep in the p!ssing rain, looking like a drowned rat...
Now, house keys in one pocket, car keys in the other, so never the twain shall meet.... :D
-
Never been locked out of a running car, but did leave my flat keys at my parents in blackpool once, bit of a bummer as was living in derby at the time, didnt have a car so had to wait for the post at my brothers. :-[

2 car keys, house key collection, caravan key collection, all seperate

See post cold mornings AAAAhhh and i think you will feel a bit better mate. Glad i'm not the only one. :-X :-X

I locked myself out of the works van a few times...in the end i got very adept at removing the small quarter light window on the merc sprinters...Always seemed to happen in the early hours of mornings for some reason ::)

Never been locked out, but have been locked in before in my old Ford Scorpio. The door locks threw a wobbly and the internal handle would just not move. Felt like a right pillock sitting outside my work place watching people go by who were too far to call. Fortunately had a sun roof which I leant out of and opened externally.

Had similar only yesterday whilst de-icing the Mega for Mrs Dave C, started the car to demist inside, whilst I was scraping the screen, I tried to close the drivers door, but, it had somehow dropped onto the first latch, so wouldn't close at all, just kept bouncing back, I operated the internal door catch which freed it. So, Had the door have closed on that first catch it would have been jammed.... Sure it's the cold causing it....
