pleas help!!! i've got v reg vectra 2.5 v6 manual which was running lumpy as you like giving symptoms of cat failure (lack of power, pressure build up in exhaust hissing out etc) , so i've changed cat along with both lambda sensors and done full service. ran like a dream for about 100 miles and now running same as before. know its not a miggy but hoping someone will know what it could be so i will also know what to do if my miggy does the same!!!!

do you have eml ?

Is the exhaust blocked. Sometimes the sound proof wadding can come loose in the silencers blocking the exhaust.
-
comes on with ignition but goes out and doesnt come on when engine goes off on mad one!
-
Why assume a cat failure ?? just 'cos its the most expensive part ???
Sounds to me just like a blocked exhaust, on miggies the rear box is prone to internal failure and shedding of the sound absorbent material, this expands a great deal and blocks the exhaust.
Now I don't know if Vectras are the same .. but I would be checking for a blocked system before replacing an expensive cat !!!
EDit ... EP .. great minds think alike :)

changed cat as i disconnected it from exhaust on ramp at work and it still ran like cak so don't think exhaust is blocked?

Hi, maybe not the same problem but my brothers 2.5 sri had a rough running problem, changed leads, plugs still the same but turned out to be coil pack, fitted a seconed head one and never played up again.
Good luck :y

cool, will try thanx :)

trial error will be expensive :-/

Does it run rough on idle.......in this operating condition there is little exhaust gas so a blockage should not affect running.
Did the fault suddenly start, got gradually worse or occured after some work?

Sorry if I'm taking over this thread but a friend of mine has the same problem but it's a 2.0ltr sri. Now he has a split water hose (at the back) oil in the plug wells which is now clear, cam cover gasket needs replacing plus the air ducting is split badley. Now done a paperclip test and its flashed 034 which I beleive is camshaft sensor. Now my quick question is once this has been all done will this cure it or could there be another problem? I will be replacing the plugs as well. Plus it idled and revved like a bag of nails, sounds more like a desiel than a petrol. plus this only happened last Sunday out of the blue also the top half (the camshaft area) sounds very knocky as if the lifters are fubbard but I think this is due to the breather system needs a good clean to allow the oil to circulate more.

Know i spock to you about that vectra today paul but if changing cam sensor vauxhall told me you should replace both that and chankshaft sensor at same time as they say the old chankshaft sensor will knock that cam sensor dead again in on time!
Sorry to use this link to reply... :y
