Currently have my grey omega stored in the garage, been there 3 years now and have sorned it every year so far. or so I thought!!
I just had a letter through from dvla telling me they didnt recieve my sorn form or tax application and have charged me £40 plus 30.84 for the tax between 11/08 til 01/08
when taking my money she suggested I do it online from now on and keep the confirmation emails.
arghhh thats 70.84 down the ruddy pan!!

I would ask them to prove you haven't sent a SORN in.
-
then they'll just ask you to prove you did. i always send important like that by recorded delivery. may cost a few extra quid but at least you can prove that you have indeed sent it.
-
Yes but they have failed to close the loop on this so far. If they can't prove that you didn't send it then they can't fine you.
I have had this with them before and I have never paid a fine.
-
I paid up when i got one, i was sure that i sent it in but apparently not they also charged me back road tax, so the missus was well unhappy :'(

Me too - endless fights over a "sorned" Vectra 2.6 ......they eventually just gave in :-/

I do it at the post office.

::) Plenty of time waiting in those queues; `not much privacy though! ;D

This has happened to me twice! And on both occasions they have said it is my fault if i don't recieve a letter from them! Because if they don't send me a letter it is my responsibility to remind them. What a set of (insert appropriate 4 letter word here)!
Both occasions i fough and argued and everytime they handed me over to a debt collection agency.

Took me a minute to catch on Debs, must be those night shifts dulling the brain cell. ;D ;D :y

my girlfriend got fined, she'd sorned her 306 while driving her golf, got her golf off the road and taxed the 306 but forgot to sorn the golf and got the £40 fine, but no backdated tax charge
-
Easy to tax or sorn on line....... :)

i purchased a suzuki ts 50 in august last year to restore and had to apply for a log book , but as soon as it was in my name i received a letter with a £40 fine plus they wanted back tax dating back to when it was last on the road in 1999 £135, i told them i was not going to pay it and to take me court,
surprise surprise i have heard nothing
