Title: help on alarm system for diplomat anyone??
Post by: jerry on 13 January 2009, 09:34:54
HI,
there's a guy lives up the road from me with an old k-reg diplomat, which still looks immaculate. I've just passed him this morning taking littleun to school and hes there with a mobile alarm engineer. Apparantly he took the battery off and now the alarm is playing up and set to the ON position. This wouldnt be such a problem if he hadnt lost the remote!!The engineer said that, due to its age VX have told him they cant get a replacement so he really needs anew control unit with matching remote or a remote that he could reprogram. I guess the only alternative would be for him to strip the whole thing out and replace with a modern alarm if he still wanted one? Anyway, its a factory fitted Vauxhall system 90 alarm and the control unit has the code 91143179 on it. Anyone with any ideas/ advice ?
                                           Many thanks,
                                           jerry

Take the remote bit off, from factory they did NOT have the remote. Original alarm unit is under/behind the glove box, ally box with a yellow socket.
It's possible to do a 'paper clip' test on the alarm ......... just can't find the codes :-/

The engineers unplugged the control unit for him, but now the cars obviously not alarmed. Unless hes very lucky and someone on here knows where he can get a remote for it I think hes looking at stripping it all out and updating.

An engineer would have sorted it by now......the technician he has clearly wont!

Is it the Vx remote pack (a bolt on option) he has on an aftermarket alarm?

The Dipolmat would have come with a factory alarm.

The starting circuit is via the alarm .....

Correct but, I seem to recall the remote pack was optional

Having had a quick look at it (he's still got all the manuals and stuff), its def. a factory fitted alarm-a "system 90"-and it originally had 2 remote fobs which were purely for the alarm and not integrated with the door/ignition keys as they are now.

The Vauxhall add on fobs were to operate the central locking remotely. If he has keys wth a built in fob than he has more than the OE alarm. Originally the alarm was activated when you dead locked it on the key at the driver's door.

Right, so the fobs would only be to operate the central locking and not activate/deactivate the alarm? The keys he does have just do the doors/ignition and they dont have a fob on them. I must get hold of him and check out the manual hes got but the way he explained it to me was that hed lost the fobs so couldnt turn the alarm off and so this other guy simply unplugged the control unit.

Alarm only activated via dead locks, and as said, the factory fit alarm has the starter cicuit wired via it (black/red IIRC) so if the OE alarm box has been removed, it's not going to turn over.
I can't find the alarm codes, but it's possible to count out the codes via the led at the top of the passenger side B post.  :y
