Are you insane?
That handset is the WORST handset made, EVER, it is utter shite.
-
im a nokia man and as such have never had a blackberry and cannot see whats so spectacular about them but my brother in law swears by em , each to there own i suppose
-
That must be your opinion m8, I think it's fantastic.
-
not just me, just read ANY review out there.
Its a handset designed to rival the iPhone and HTC, yet its got no WiFi?
Its slow, crash happy, its the usual thing americans build, looks nice, but horrible to use, lacks features, poor build.
Worst thing is that 'clickable' keyboard... give it 2 weeks it will fail..
-
a company i was working for last year gave me a blackberry as a company phone. seemed like a decent bit of kit but just couldnt get to grips with it.

My brother has had his since 2 days after they came out (november ish time I think) and he had no worries with it. Bloke in vodaphone told me it's on a par with the iPhone the only thing it is lacking is the wi-fi imo. The mrs has an iPhone so i know what they are like too. Haven't had a crash in the 2 days i've had it and my brother when I asled him what they were like with regards to crashing etc he said minimal.

wifes got one and she loves it, me ive got an old brick, does me fine.

Tunnie with the exception of no Wi-fi i couldn't disagree more...
I have had mine since before xmas, never crashed once.
Build quality is as good as my 8800 and Bold.
Having installed google maps and a few other apps i would say it has stacks of appeal....and the apps cost nothing...
Clicky keyboard is a bit of a digression from the normal soft touch, but if set up correctly then it works fine.
I had an Iphone for a few weeks and whilst i loved the theory behind it it was not executed in a good way, unlike the Storm.
I'm not saying its better than the iPhone, but certainly a more reliable and longer lasting alternative.

Well, the bloke in Vodafone would hardly recommend a phone they can't supply you ;)
Personally, very disappointed with Storm - Voda flogged my brother one as the best thing to get Exchange based email. Shows what useless dickheads the sales people are, I suspect they get high commission on the Blackberry.

That is a fair point actually TB they would say that ;D But anyway I'm happy.

Thats what matters. Just be aware it does seem to suffer from instability, and that it has a reputation for being delicate...

or possibly piss poor training that has lead to misunderstanding......
we work in this environment and can differentiate between BES, BIS, POP, IMAP, Exchange etc, i doubt the guy selling the phone knows half the features.
I'm not sticking up for him, just highlighting that half the time they just about know how to work their own phone let alone one they are trying to flog.
Voda told me the Storm couldn't be unlocked.....i bought mine in a charity auction, 2 days later its on Orange :y and Orange supplied me with the code ;D ;D
-
Each to their own. I was offered the Samsung Tocco by Vodafone but I could not get on with it where as, despite the limitations, my iphone is easily the best phone I've had along with a Nokia 7110.
I've tried a Blackberry Storm and I didn't much like it but then I know plenty of people who hate my phone
-
Phoneszzzzzzzzzzz
Sorry they bore me rigid - and for those that dont know i run the sales teams for one of the major networks ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
started with 7 blackberrys in november at work, between the shoddy vodafone setup and constant arseups of the blackberry side, and the awful phones, we only have two left that do what they're meant to. I've replaced the others with windows mobile devices.
still if your happy with it and it does what you want then i spose thats what matters.
-
glad your pleased with it, but i don't get the sales pitch. They seem to be aimed at middle management and above who are too removed to know that e mail is fairly common feature on mobiles these days, and cant cope with new tech i.e. texting so assume only qwerty devices are email capable, and then ask what are all the other things it does, totally amazed it has "other" features as well koz they only got it for email. "Oh, it has internet, wow :D" and off they go telling all, (who know far better how great they are), who say nothing for fear of showing up the boss, numps....This actually happened by the way. ;D
-
Can you make calls on it? ::)
-
blackberrys are aimed solely at business, general pubic won't have them.
1) because they are crap
2) very expensive to run for a private user.
3) it costs something silly like £40 a month to have a Vodafone SIM blackberry BES enabled...the company then has to buy a license for the BES server...
4) at least the iphone makes free use of windows exchange capabilities
We have a number of blackberrys in the office, every single one has had a fault and gone back to be repaired, in some cases its so fubard they send us a brand new one as a replacement.
Also love the comment about the storm being on a par with the iphone..... great bull from Voda there! On a Par? My FOUR, thats http://FOUR year old Nokia N80 had Wifi!
iPhone contracts you get a years free access to BT Cloud and they are everyware and very quick, and no, i don't have an iPhone ;)
-
Each to there own, but I *really* don't like it...
My brother has one...
The 'click screen' to me feels loose, it moves about too much and IMHO makes the build quality drop significantly IMHO. I know they say its because its a 'button' but... its still too loose...
Playback of video files is hit & miss, if they play, all well and good... Just don't try and pause the video or change playback position...
Also don't like all the tie-ins...
But I got a new phone too... SE Xperia X1 (awaits TB bashing)... BUT WAIT
The phone is made by HTC, not SE ;) And once its debranded and flashed with a generic ROM, its bloody marvellous! My brother also got the Omnia the other day... to try and say its better... He couldn't get it to even work properly :) Bloody shit samsungs...
Still, if your happy with your BruisedBerry, thats all that matters :y

iphone
inherently floored tho :) Apple crippled the bluetooth capabilities so you can only BT to other iPhones & Macs :)
Plus by buying into Apple in general, your basically bending over to be Steve Jobs Bitch...

Sounds like some sort of summer pudding. :P I'll have mine with a bit of cream on, please.
I'm with Markie. Have worked in the mobile phone industry for 17 years and ... terribly sorry old boy, I am a little tired!
Are Nokia making any more 6310i's soon?

Tunnie, buy you own previous comments on this and other threads, you do not like Blackberries, so you view is somewhat impartial, further back buy your raving on about you four.....yes four year old nokia.
Blackberry have sold millions of their devices, if they were that crap then they would not be where they are today.
Having had an iPhone...i can say that the are flawed, until Apple sort out the crap battery life, terrible bluetooth and tied into a network that isn't the best in the UK.
You don't need to buy a BES licence, most operators will supply a BIS solution for a small fee (on Orange it costs me £2 a month, £24 a year for delivered email on my handset)
i don't understand your comment about them being expensive to run, mine costs about £50 a month and most of that is line rental.....if i have a have a busy month then my bill will be about £80.
the last 5 companies i have worked for have used Blackberry as opposed to nokia, purely because of what they do and how they do it, and i see a lot more people getting into them on a personal basis now.
phones are like cars, Personally i absolutely hate ford, nothing will get me in one, and so i can find an argument and negativity about any of the model range if i want

Whats the point in the BIS solution? Your computer has to be on for mail to be delivered, and the IMAP ports must be open at your place of employment.... also if blackberry RIM servers crash, which they do, no one gets their mail.
They have an excellent push to device system, thats why businesses use them... the actuall delivery method is not bad, its the actual handsets which are crap. Sorry but we have around 35 handsets here, and ALL of them have failed at some point.
You pay £50 a month!!?!?!? and sometimes £80, i bet your on Vodafone! Got you over a barrel there. I pay £5 inc Vat a month for 250 txts 100 mins and unlimited data, if is so choose, its an extra £15 for unlimited texts and calls. (i don't use it it enough so don't add them on)
So for £20 i would have unlimited data, calls, txts. I use Windows Mobile to connect to exchange (free) my e-mail push is free (it sends a mail to my device the second exchange gets it, blackbarry charge huge amounts for this), also company i work for does not have to spend vasts amounts of money on BES lisence.
iPhone is too locked down for me, does not support turn by turn sat nav, does not have removeable memory like mine.
At the end of the day people will go for what they like, seams a lot of people like being ripped off ;D

BIS is pointless, your computer has to be on. Nice and environmently friendly that... instead of an eco server running, you have to keep your machine running over xmas/holidays/weekends to get your mail?

No my machine does not have to be on all the time......the email is sent direct from my ISP
err no i am on Orange, i wouldn't touch Voda with a 10 foot barge pole, i have done a lot of work with them and wouldn't use them as a mobile provider.
My £50 - £80 is paid for by my business, i am doing about 2000 mins a month, have BIS with unlimited internet and email, have unlimited text, and i can easily knock out 1500 a month, and the phone is insured.
it is possible to 'unlock' the iPhone, yes there is a cost, but it does work, i had turn by turn sat nav working on it, and it didn't crash like windows phones used to
I don't like being ripped off....mine is a business Tarriff, i am not tied into a contact an i claim the VAT back on that invoice total as well ;D

tbh, if you want to sync your phone with Exchange, Windows Mobile is probably the way to go.
If you want imap based email, pretty much any fairly modern handset can deal with it. OK, it won't be pushed though.
A lot of medium/large companies bought in to RIM stuff when Blackberrys were the one corporate option, and are tied into it for legacy reasons. I work for a company, but am permenently on a contract for another large UK company. This company uses Blackberrys, and I frequently see them fly across the room due to unexpected behaviour ;D
The company I work for uses Windows Mobile (obviously, seeing as the make them), and although they are the frustrating type (imho) without a touchscreen, but they do work well - shame, as I love to find fault with the company's products (even before I worked for them)
-
it didn't crash like windows phones used to
What handset did you have, most WM5 or WM6 devices are pretty stable - the htc based one I use currently has been pretty good, except problems with IE.

i had the TYTN, TYTN2 M3100 and all of them crashed frequently.....
Found that if a text came in when the sat nav was on the phone would freeze and need a soft reset

think mine is m3100 - use TT6.010, never really had an issue except that occasionally it loses the memory card, whether i/c text or phone call.

think mine is m3100 - use TT6.010, never really had an issue except that occasionally it loses the memory card, whether i/c text or phone call.
if its the one with the swivel screen then yes, i remember you had just got it when we did the had on the tractor
yup, that would be about right. Its been reliable and a pleasure to use, except IE, which can be a sod on it

Blackberry and apple - yummy
Got a bush in hte garden

it didn't crash like windows phones used to
What handset did you have, most WM5 or WM6 devices are pretty stable - the htc based one I use currently has been pretty good, except problems with IE.

I must be a dinosaur, I have read every persons post in this thread, and bar about 2 mentioning blackberries and cream, I can safely say I did not understand a single word that was said.
Oh I should just add I am now mobile phone free, and soooooo happy.
No beggar can get hold of me anymore. Yippee. ;D ;D
