Just discovered that almost 1000 years ago one on my ancestors was given the parish of Ash ( a couple of miles from where I now live) by William the Conqueror. The family them settled in The far tip of Cornwall, then 150 years ago moved to Wales. Dad moved to Taunton 53 years ago --- and completed the "millenium cycle" --- small word ain't it.
Probably as boring as hell to most ( if not all) of you ---- but I got a little excited about the coincidence of it all :)

Good find!!
Remember, wheres theres a name, thers a claim..... ;D
Might be worth a couple of acres somewhere nice if you investigate the 'alternate' family bloodline that all families have somewhere...... ;)

Take it you been on the new Cenus thingy that was realesed today HC?

Interesting :y

my hubby is 137 in line for the earl of roffey. where it is i dont know dont really care TBH unless they have a massive function and they all die in a fire its never going to affect us.

I expect that you were just a young child on the 1911 census Skruntie. ;D ;D :-* :-*

I believe HC that we all travel in circles throughout time, space and so called History, in a pre-determined, pre-programmed manner that links us constantly with the past and future. Heavy stuff, but 'my friend' quantum physics seems to have a few hidden answers on this one. 8-) 8-) 8-)
Personally my life has been one of continual movement, apparently forward, but always ending up traveling in circles to return to the same familiar points with constant links to my past (and future) beyond count! :o :o This I feel is no accident, and without being too spooky about it, I believe I have lived a few times before. :o :o 8-)
Reading deeper into History has taught me how so often a chain of so called "coincidences" have resulted in a final result that appears on investigation as being unavoidable and suiting a grand plan. ::) ::)
Examples? In recent History The Titanic story (1910 - 15th April, 1912, D-Day (6th June 1944) and Hitler's constant survival from mortal attack, but decision making that would guarantee his, and Nazis Germany's, downfall, a few examples of the many being; Operation Barbarossa 22nd June 1941 against Russia; Declaring War on the USA 11th Dec. 1941 post Pearl Harbour; Hitler assuming supreme command of his military forces with him, not local commanders, making all the major decisions, and that fateful day of June 6th 1944. ;)
In past History: Henry VIII and his fixation on a male heir, which by a chain of strange path of 'destiny' led to our greatest monarch, Queen Elizabeth I, which in turn resulted, by way of the almost divine defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588, to the creation of the foundations of the British Empire!
But on a far smaller, day to day scale, there have been, are, and will be many cases of situations arising out of a whole series of consequences, cause and effect, of action by you or third parties, that result in a conclusion (for that point in time at least) that when analysised seems to represent a chain of events which reached a conclusion that was destined to be. :o
No, I haven't gone suddenly stark raving mad, although that may come later! :D :D ;)

As usual .......thought provoking stuff Lizzie.
When you say pre-determined ......and pre- programmed......are you suggesting that we have no free will regarding the future.
I feel that the past is set..............but the future is open to all sorts of variations.......good or bad.......but then again maybe we think that we are making choices and changes....but really it is already set in stone......as though our whole lives are already on tape / DVD.....and we are just running through it.
I think that time travel into the future is possible.....but to really make it work we need enormous velocity.......if we could travel at very close to the speed of light then yes.....maybe....perhaps.
It is heavy stuff ........and obviously .............. I am too thick to understand it fully......but very interesting all the same.
I like the whole paradox thing.......you get in a time machine....go back in time and shoot your grandfather.......and then see what happens when you try to go forward again to your own time......................Heavy stuff. :y :y :y :y :y

You are certainly not thick, but I believe mankind as a whole is far too young to understand the cause and effect mechanics of time, space, history and future.
Is time in bands, or plains that 'float' like recordings in so called space that we can, with very advanced knowledge 'hook' into? My favourite philosopher Thomas Hobbes (1588 - 1679) firmly believed in matter in motion within the universe and the action on atoms on other atoms, being deflected, distorted, and causing affects on mankind. Very advanced thought, brought on by a meeting with Galileo, way beyond the scientific discoveries of the nature of atoms and the implications of the quantum enigma of c. 1908 and the use of atomic energy later in the twentieth century.
Is there a pre-determined path that we cannot influence? A very heavy question indeed, which all of us can only guess at, but my understanding of historical fact and my own life seems to suggest very strongly that although we think we make our own decisions, overall so often the conclusion of all actions seems to be out of our control and meant to be. I am sure a very senior mathematician could compile an equation of this way beyond my skills, as Albert Einstein did in regards to proving so much, including the existence of the quantum enigma that he found extremely "spooky" due to the implications involved! :o :o
In short though life appears to go in circles, gaining experience and knowledge in the process, making what seems to be significant progress, only to come back to a starting point that has advanced a 'few degrees' up the evolutionary scale. The question is are we individually part the whole process, returning to different lives as time advances, or simply once only observers of the 'Earth process' after which our spirits move on to a completely new plain of existence without any connection whatsoever to the universe we currently inhabit?
One thing has been proved by scientists; the big bang has sent atomic material out from a central point since it occurred some 13.7 billion years ago, and as 'my friend' Hobbes noted, matter is constantly in motion being interpreted only by our senses in, if you believe in the implications of quantum science, a consensual world with all other human beings. In my words a "Natural Computer Generated Matrix" of existence, that yes is playing out a pre-determined existence for us all until the next life experience (training mode?) provided by a supreme power; God! 8-) 8-)

Yes Lizzie.............we are told that the big bang happened some 14 billion years ago ( we won't split hairs over a paltry 300 million years) ............and that before that there was nothing...........no space........ no time............nothing.............or was there?
We were watching a recent documentary on BBC4 where a few scientists are now suggesting that the big bang was a consequence of events happening prior to it..........These boffins seemed to be suggesting that a big bang type event happens on a regular basis in parallel worlds.
Maybe its that circle thing Lizzie...........about everything being predetermined.
Your guess is as good as mine and thats all we have at the moment :y :y :y :y

How you found out about what happened a thousand years ago has blown me away.. The Census's did not even exist then :o

Indeed Optimist, and time, or something similar to what we know as time, existed before................yes maybe on one of those plains of existence I have suggested. :y :y :y

I find this difficult to believe.. scientists say things that happened millions of years ago.... :-?

Indeed Lk, billions of years ago, as calculated by measurements taking from observations through the Hubble Telescope.
If you are interested there is an excellent paper that gives one scientists detailed explanation of the time scales of the 'big bang':
*
'Hubble's Diagram and Cosmic Expansion'
* Robert P. Kirshner
* Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, Vol. 101, No. 1 (J... more
* Published by: National Academy of Sciences
this states. quote:
"The remarkable result of this long path of revision is that the Hubble time is now taken seriously. The age of the universe implied by the modern Hubble constant with constant expansion is -14 billion yr. This result is in good accord with the theoretical ages of stars. The oldest stars in our galaxy have ages, based on computations of stellar evolu- tion through nuclear burning, of 12.5 + 1.5 billion yr, just enough younger than the Hubble time to fit comfortably into a scheme where galax- ies form promptly after the Big Bang (17). Even with the added wrinkle of cosmic deceleration and cosmic acceler- ation, the best value from the Hubble diagram for the elapsed time since the Big Bang is -13.6 + 1.5 billion yr (18). The expansion is no illusion; it is cosmic history"
The time scale supports Optimists 14 billion year statement, but other scientist believe it is 13.7 billion to be precise, but whatever it is actually the big bang happened at about this time based on mathematical calculations that I certainly will not attempt to dispute! ::) ::) ::) ::)

So ok what happened to God making the earth then?

One day a parish in Ash -- then ....the WORLD Mmwaahahaha :D
Haven't looked at the 1811 Census online yet, Skruntie ----- went back in time using old fashioned Parish Registers and the like .... which is why I have been doing it for nigh on 30 years !
Like many of us I am proud to have Plantagenet blood, but more so as it's by direct male line descent.
No Earldoms on the horizon, yet, Marie --- couple of Baronies going begging (but that will take a few more years arguing with the Heralds to sort that out). I do have a title though ;)

So ok what happened to God making the earth then?
In scientific belief the big bang was the start of the current process to creating our World, which of course may be far from the only one!
As for where God features, well that is down to personal faith, but I believe he is the 'supreme scientist' who has created everything we know, maybe in the form of my suggested "Natural Computer Matrix", and the time and space around us.
But, who really knows anything yet? ::) ::) ::)

There is always the possibility that we are actually sub atomic particles, sat on an atom in the middle of some gigantic piece of furniture in some ginormous world "out there" !!!
Or germs in some laboratory petri dish ---- where a day in the life of the scientist is a millenium in "our" time ..... look out for the autoclave.
One thing I used to muse upon ....... if we could send a rocket to the edge of space ---- when it popped out of space, what would it fall into ?????? (More space ??????)

Oh yes those fascinating what ifs and speculation on what is HC!! ;) :)
What books and films it has created, along with the technological advances it has all caused since the beginning of (our) time! :D :D :D ;)
