yet again I have just had a message on the screen saying the box was going into stand by mode. It has been doing this for the last 2 or 3 weeks or so. Thought noting of it as I have a lot of programs set to come on automatically. and after the ones that come on late I assumed that was why the box was on standby in the morning when I woke up.
Chatting to a mate and he said his box was going into standby mode quite a lot and he does not set programmes on auto.
Anyone else having standby issues.
TIA.

Standby for an answer :D

The sister-in-laws box did that the other day... My sky + one doesn't seem to though :-/ :-/ :-/

Mine always goes into standby mode if the TV is off for a couple of hours --- comes back on if a recording is programmed in. Every night I switch off the TV and always forget about the sky box -- but every morning it is in standby .... never done it while I was watching anything tho ..... yet !

Same thing happened to mine mate. The fault mine had was a duff hard drive. A friend of mine had his power supply go and before it did he said that it went into standby a lot as well.
So there's a couple of things to call Sky about if it's it's covered under your warranty.
Also, have you tried to do a manual update? You can do this by powering off the Sky+ box and when powering it back up hold the 'Back' button. You'll get a few screen prompts, just agree to everything!!

There was a recent firmware update that automatically puts it into standby mode when you don't channel surf for an hour or two. You can turn this off in the menus somewhere. Might as well, cos putting it into standby doesn't make much difference to its' appaulling power consumption IME. ::)
Still it must appease the nut-munchers. ;)

What I have had while watching ( tho only a couple of times in the last year) is the picture goes and I get a little drawing of a satellite dish beaming into space with a message telling me it's updating and will take a couple of minutes ......well, after the first time it was still telling me it will take a couple of minutes after about 20, so I switched it all off and back on again to get normal service.

From a reliable site:
Your Sky+ is about to go into standby
Sky have recently rolled out a power saving "auto standby feature" to all Sky+ and Sky HD boxes to reduce power consumption and the environmental impact of Sky boxes being left on when not in use. This was implemented by means of an automatic software update. Unfortunately, Sky haven't considered the case where the Sky box owner is recording overnight programming onto video tape or an external DVD writer.
We have received many complaints from irrate people whose attempt to record programmes overnight have failed due to the box going into standby at 1am with the message "Your Sky+ box is about to go into standby". To turn off this "feature" please follow the procedure below:
Press the "Services" button on your Sky handset
Press button 5 for "Sky Setup"
Press the handset 'up' button twice which highlights "Auto Standby"
Use the left or right handset buttons to turn auto standby OFF
Press the handset down key to highlight "Save New Settings" and then press select
Turn your Sky box off and then on to return to normal viewing using the Sky button
N.B. please consider the environment and re-enable the Sky box auto standby function after you have completed your unattended overnight recording.

FFS >:(,so you arent even allowed to decide when you want to have your own sky box switched on ? if mine does this it will be the last straw,I will cancel.

Bloody control freaks, if I want mine to go into standby mode then I will decide. Not half way though a film because I have not been channel hoping.
