I'd just like to openly thank Maria for tolerating me being a miserable git over the last few days.
I had been quite nervous in the days leading to my first court appearance (as a prosecution witness) which was today.
I woke up this morning and was really nervous. Arrived at court, waited around in the waiting room, and was called in by the usher, who led me to the witness box.
I gave my affirmation, confirmed my details and what I do, and then answered the questions, first from the prosecution barrister, then from the defence one.
I was pleasantly surpsised with myself, I lost all sense of apprehension, and gave some really clear and concise evidence.
The defence tried to tell me I had "imagined" their client committing the offence on a couple of occasions. Both times they did this, I clearly told the bench that wasn't the case, and I remained 100% confident about what I heard.
I came out feeling my integrity was 100% intact and that I'd done the right thing.
Should get the results tomorrow - at least I know what to expect next time!
I don't think the defendant did himself any favours. He pointed at me, made a cut throat gesture, pushed his nose up and mouthed the words "you're a dead pig". At which point the judge told him to be quiet. Don't think that will help his case ;D

bright sort of fella wasn't he, well done James

Thanks mate. It was definately an "experience" :D

If the defendant made such gestures to you in court & the best defence his brief could come up with was you imagining things they're probably related in some way!!! ::)

Well done fella :y
I don't fancy doing it :-[

Good for you :y :y Court is often more frightening than the actual event, as I have said before make sure you are fully aware of all the facts.
The next time will be easier. The longest I was up being questioned was for about an hour and a half. ::)
I may be in Court on Friday ::) At the moment I am preparing a report, requested by the Court, on which at first loking seemed a doddle, till I started the enquiries, so will be back on Feb 11th.
Pleased your first time was a good experience..... :y :y :y

Thanks for the encouragement Mike :y :y

Judge should have locked him up for contempt and threatening behaviour. >:(

He was warned by the district judge that he was very close to contempt. As said, he REALLY did himself no favours.
If I was a defendant, I would NOT attend a court trial in a scruffy jumper, ripped jeans, and greasy hair!
I am by no means discriminating, but I think it's fair to say that the defendant could have presented himself better. Even if he can't afford new clothes, some soap, water and a cheap razor wouldn't have gone amiss..
That aside, making death threats to Police Officers in a court our law will NOT help his case ;D

Sounds like you did good james well done officer.... ;D ;)

Sounds like a job well done James :y :y :y

Totally agreed... Judges (here is not jury) mostly affected from the defendants attitudes , face and image..

Sounds like a scrote less on the streets
I hope it gets contempt as well.
Well done :y

Glad it went well for you James! :y :y :y That is a good experience to get under your belt.
I was due to be a Police witness in a case shortly, but unfortunately the chap has pleaded guilty! :'( :'( :'( :'( Oh well, I'll await the next occasion for my 'experience list'. :D :D ;)

i have never been on the whitness side!(not that ive been on the defendant's side many times either) but the few times i have been summonsed to court i have always dressed smartly, clean shaven and acted with respect and confidence. the magistrates always take a better view of someone who appears respnsible and acts like he/she regrets thier actions and wants to try and rectify the situation, however futile it may seem at the time!!!
quite frankly to take on the system is a very difficult task, to take on the sytem without an ounce of intelligence is plain stupidity!! even worse is to show your so stupid that you would make threats of serious harm to a police officer in a court, with judges as whitnesses. i would have given him jail on the fact that he is too stupid to be on the streets! call it a stupid tax!
