Title: OHH MAAAAAANNNNN!!!!!
Post by: bighed on 24 January 2009, 12:17:06
Just give the senator a quick wash and was pulling into work. Pulled up behind a jeep grand cherokee and next thing i know its sat on the senator. She chucked her pile of sh1t in reverse and drove straight into me. How she couldnt see me i will never know!! I had my head lights on to dry out a bit of condensation on the lens. Im now propper peeved off. Its done the wing, bit of the bonnet and pushed the front bumper back. Oh and dented the chrome bumper strip.  :'( :'( :'( :'(

Agreed but it may give you the opportunity to buy it back off the insurers and get it repaired at an independant bodyshop that charge a lot less than the ones insurers use you may evan make a few bob out of it.

He already owns the car! The other insurer might be prepared to give you what they thought the car was worth. This is what happened when SWMBO's Lantra was clobbered by a skip waggon, the repairs would have been more than the value of the car, they effectively wrote it off, and offered her £650 to cover its value .... which we accepted. The car was then sold on ...  :y

Im not up to scratch on the procedure now. Im going to see a bodyshop on monday. What do I do then?
 :-/

Also would they value the car on book price or whats on insurance docs, or is that the book price??
Title: Re: OHH MAAAAAANNNNN!!!!!
Post by: redelitev6 on 24 January 2009, 18:53:05
They'll probably base repair costs on new VX parts, if they do you could be looking at a write off -book price for a senator will be next to nothing-sorry mate!

If thats the case I will buy it back and get it done

How do I go about buying it back? What happens

The problem with involving your insurance with the repair is that if it's declared a write off it will go on the car's history and you might well end up having to get the car inspected before it's put back on the road.

They will indeed use book value to determine if it's a write off so it's 100% certain that it will be, IMHO.

If I were you I would take it to a body shop for an opinion / quote by all means but don't get your insurance involved with the body shop.

I would then try to negotiate with the 3rd party insurers and see if they will admit liability and, if so, what they'll offer you to repair it yourself. It will be cheaper for them if your company are not involved in the settlement, and adding their administration costs, etc.

You should inform your insurers, but don't let them write the car off.

Kevin

Thank you kevin. Think thats gonna be the plan. Looking at it further it looks like its just the wing thats not sitting right. Its pushed back about 3mm. Will see i suppose  :y

You already own it!!! Don't be bullied by the other insurer.

Hi Bighed
Don,t know if the senny is old/rare to be put on classic insurance /agreed value policy . My scimitar was valued 9000 when i had it done (Written report buy engineer) some times they just want some pics .I have a mate who srayed the scimitar if you want a quote for repairs

As oldgit says ... once the car is sorted have a look at "cherished / classic" insurance. It is usually for a fixed sum and a limited annual mileage, I had it on an MGB I rebuilt some years back.. admittedly it was through the MGOC so was quite a good deal...

Adrianflux   http://www.adrianflux.co.uk

or Heritage  http://www.heritage-quote.co.uk/modern-classic.cfm

might be worth a phone call

Yea , this maybe a good idea mate, get some insurance prices together to cover costs of things like this happening when its Chrished to you.

Some ppl dont mind there cars being writen of so they get a good payout but with teh Senny there aint many tidy ones about now mate, especially as tidy as yours.  :y

Ha ha, Well the plan is go to betta bodies and elite body craft. Ring up the woman who did damage and give her the quotes which will be without going through insurance, then tell her if she gives me 250 we will be square as I can imagine the quotes will be a lot more than that  :y

I lied. Its now not working again.

Good news hopefully anyway. My mate who worked in a bodyshop for a few years and has his own workshop with all the gear has said he will fix all damage, sort the bit of rust on back door, respray the one wingmirror which is minus a bit of lacquer on the top and sort some other bits and pieces for the bargain price of £100 with me buying the paint. Im going to ask the woman for £250 cash to settle it.

Think thats a good deal all in all  :y

Thanks for all nice comments!!! Well bit of an update. Had quote of bodyshop today as the woman who hit me wanted and it came to £408.93 inc vat. She is going through her insurance company. The bodyshop have put me onto a company called s.a.m. Smart accident management who have taken over the claim from my side. My no claims wont be touched, wont pay excess and will get a hire car. Cant see why she wanted to go through insurance as she will have to pay HER excess anyway plus costs of my claim. Oh well least it WONT be written off hey!!!!!  :y

Maybe you could explain too her AGAIN that your offer will save her the excess and maybe most importantly wont load up next years premiums... :-?

You end up with a fixed car and a few quid in ya back pocket.

Another update, assessor has been and given the go ahead for work.  :y

He pulled on my drive and i went out to meet him. The first thing he said was " Blimey, not seen one of these for years" closely by, "I owned one of these about ten years ago but it wasn't in this good a condition then"  ;D :y

So just waiting to hear off smart accident management  :)
