just discovered a problem with Virgin though - if you are in top 5% of downloaders they cop your speed to half the rate you pay for during peak hours (4pm to 9pm).   We are on standard 2 meg package and now only get 1 meg since my partner's son discovered youtube!!

Amazing really, cos when they were NTL they were bl**dy useless, since becoming VM they have improved dramatically.

No, Virgin Media are every bit as bad as NTL, seeing as they pretty much use NTL's old infrastructure.

They are buggers for traffic shaping, but they will deny they do this.

Also, they use the same crap old unreliable proxies which are badly (mis)configured  :(

They weren't taken over by mr branston's empire, basically he had some sort of trading deal going, and it seemed like a good idea to use the name Virgin to hide their prevous crap reputation.  Interestingly enough, my son had Telewest in Shefield, and they appear to have been very good, I had NTL in Leicester and they were very bad.And what happens when you mix a good company with a bad company ?. You get a big bad company.

we were with telewest, when they changed to NTL customer service was dire.....

we changed to Sky, OMG!! how totally shite are they, they made NTL look like a professional outfit, after a year i binned them and went back to what was then Virgin.

Totally different company to deal with, their customer service is sooo much better that it was before and miles better that sky. I could go on about the benefits for ages, but i wont

Mixed feelings about Virgin. But good thing is you can phone up and complain that your monthly bill is too much and they will knock it down. :y

You didn't mention Incorrect billing month after month after month....actively reporting people supposedly file sharing....incredibly rude customer service monkeys.

Even had one African sounding guy tell me that i wouldn't leave....refused too transfer me too disconnection team and argue i couldn't get a better service else where (and i do mean argue)... :o >:(

Had ntl prior to Virgin takeover do get minor issues but to be fair there customer service has fixed anything that as been a problem and do repair & replace modems etc in a cple of days, so basing my experiences i would mark em 8 out of 10 plus there prices are very good compared to BT lot ! Best deals to be had by new customers !! :y

Yes all sounds familiar, and when phoned to cancel the contract after a year of grief, then tell you... You cant! and then hang up...we just cancelled the direct debit in the end. Customer service closed at 8pm, i get in at 5 pm and spend 3 hours on the phone to be cut off 2 mins in to a conversation when i finally get a human being at 7.58.

Still, it only took them 3 years to turn off the broadband after we canceled... All those free downloads...idiots

We only used them koz bt said they could not take anymore customers on that line, they are not much better now.
