Post by: feeutfo on 06 February 2009, 06:22:06
i need new pants! Bloody great crack of thunder just woke us up at 6am. And its banging away regular now. Snow thick and heavy but its only just started pooring down as its only about an inch thick.
Never seen snow with thunder and lightening before in all my 40years.

Thing is that thunder is a result of lightning which i a result of a build up of static.

Lots of charged particles in heavy snow (lots of friction)......and the result is a nice big bang

here, before the snow, only sky goes pinky (visible in night daytime is grey) sometimes little windy but absolutely no bang..

sometimes in april or may if it become cold enough and it bangs comes only hail..
