I know it's frustrating but really is for the best! Personally I say good on the RAF for using a bit of common sense :y :y :y

Marie, as someone who could potentially make such difficult decisions remember that they are not taken lightly. Imagine if something had happened and they had not taken all the necessary precautions you would be even more p!ssed off...
...just like those coming back from Afghan and Iraq on R&R cannot take a hire car straight away because of drivers hours. They either have to take 8 hours enforced rest or get on one of the buses that'll take them to local train stations, heathrow, etc.
Corporate manslaughter laws now mean that I can get put in jail if I act negligently in the even of one of my soldier's deaths. It's frickin scary!

Sounds like 'dangle berries' to me.....
.....surely its up-to the individual to make the decision and asses the risk of if its safe or not!
Nanny state again!
-
I guess you're less of an individual in some lines of work. :-/
I know what my response would be to my employer if they shut the exit to the site and told me it was too dangerous for them to let me go home at the weekend!

The forces is the epitome of the nanny state. I spent all of Monday and most of tuesday dealing with a soldier who had spun off and crashed his car putting him in hospital. There are certain parts of my job which are time consuming and most of them come under the banner of Duty of Care.... :(

Absolutely!
Its just another level of this 'your not fit to make your own decisions' policy!

I suppose you could have worded it better! ;D ;D ;D ;D
But I agree! I'd have been very pi$$ed off if they'd cancelled week end leave just cos the weather was deemed to be to bad to travel. I've driven through ploughed drifts 6'+ deep on the A702 on my way back to SWMBO in Rosyth.
