Personally dont want the meets to turn into a disco.

No one likes the same music as everyone else.

Meets are for talking and car work.

Most campsites i've stayed on take a grim view on anyone blasting out tunes.

all my opinion, others may have different views.

All the big oof meets so far have been fine without music.

We had some music at Rufforth. All general stuff in the back ground, not in your face ... or ears!  :y  :y

On a serious note, I'm with you on that. Music is for listening to when you can give it all your attention, IMHO. I can't stand music in the background, especially if I'm trying to concentrate on something or talk to people.

Someone playing music at a camp site would drive me up the wall, too, so I wouldn't subject others to it. All just IMHO.

With this (Newent I am talking about here) being a family site there will be other people there and we don't want to be kicked off the site or not allowed to return.
I would suggest not bringing electric guitars, amps, etc

Sorry to be a kill joy

i only put this up as a laugh as its a great music box, would like to get one here to provoke the doughnut downsatirs. i dont like him or his cocky attitutude to peoples privacy and peace, its my flat and i'll do as i like. thats fighting talk in my mind. council dont bother sorting him so someone has to. everyone gets on here except with this bloke, bit of brake fluid on his paintwork would look nice  :)

Firstly the York meet will always have music but far from a rave or club. We were still able to chat happily without shouting & it added something to the the meet & interfered with no one else, no more than having the radio on in the kitchen while making tea & toast.
There is more to Omega meetings than fixing them all day & talking about them all night. If Newent is like this then remove me from the list please. I like music & Migs i refuse to choose.
Some people take life & music too seriously. Lighten up FFS. ::)

I think the evening sessions at both The Lakes & Newent - the only two meets I've been to - the conversations covered virtually every possible subject  that anyone wished to discuss !!

A LOT of banter, good food, loads of beer, and I doubt anyone even thought about music .... it was ... as I hoped it would be ... a SOCIAL occasion .. why does everything these days have to have some mindless drone in the background ???

Mindless drone? Totally missed the point. ::)

Personally, I'd rather not have music, as I find it distracting, and I'll either love the music or hate it, with no middle ground.  And anyone sticking Lily bloody Allen on will end up with a chair through their cones.

But thats up to whoever is organising it.

Worth bearing in mind that younger members and some of the ladies may wish to go to bed earlier though.

I'm sure we could come up with something a bit more seismic if you're really interested in pi$$ing him off.

Here's a couple of nice subwoofers for a start.  ;D :

IT'S NOT LOUD. Kids can sleep.
How can background music be distracting? It's only in the evening when folk are chilling out, distracting from what exactly?
Why can't music be background? If it is everyone can enjoy it despite personal tastes.
There is more to life than fixing Omegas during the day & talking about them all night. As for mindless drone i won't dignify that with a reply.
Considering the trouble we got in for other peoples noise at Lakes 07 & how we all complained (me included) we now have a chance to enjoy a varied selection of sounds to cater for all tastes & now we can folks want moan about that as well, can't win either way  :-?

.. and I will stamp on his loudspeakers while your doing that TB..

does illiustrate the point that one size doesn't fit all.  and personally when I have been camping and other campers have had music going it is often quite irritating and I am sure would not go down well with the campsite owners.

Camping & OOF meets are two different things. Did you read my IT'S NOT LOUD post before you replied to TB? or were you jumping on the bandwagon?...easy to join in, neither of you would like what happened if you broke one of my speakers.

FOR THE LAST TIME IT'S QUIET. Read before you post. No one else was around us to hear it & it was playing quietly in the background. We could all talk without shouting & did'nt disturb anyone hence welcome back this year.
God you're all so rather dull.

I can understand some people wanting music on, no one likes music more than me, but Newent Meet is a family run site with other people camping of all ages who go there for a quiet weekend.
Guy I know you will say "it wont be loud" and I appreciate that, but for Newent I think music is a no no...
If at York we can play music then lets leave the music for that Meet please.
As for anyone smashing up speakers I think that is over the top, but I think that was more said in jest than anything else.

If the fact that music however loud can't be played at Newent Meet I am very sorry, maybe I should have put it in the original post.

Hope this doesn't offend people or put people off the Meets

when i go round m8s, if baby is asleep, you have to wisper. we used to put ours to bed with music on, less chance of them waking up at the sudden sound of noise. she wont have it though. only been a mum 5 mins and knows everything  >:(

Sorry, I find it is. Can't help it.  I can only listen to one conversation at a time, and I have to turn the radio down when I'm lost.  :-[.  I think that means I'm not a woman ;D

Seriously, if the organiser of the meet wants to have (quiet) music, thats up to them.  I think we have to be aware that some people may be bedding down earlier than others, and even quiet music does carry, so after a certain time, perhaps turn it down a bit further?

Certainly Newent, music is a non starter, as its a proper campsite, with other people staying. For the last 2 years, there has been no problems or complaints, but I think playing music would be antisocial towards the other campers.

From what I've seen at York, its not a public campsite, so thats not an issue - unless those bringing kids think its an issue?

And, if I see a gayPod, I may not be able to control Sammy (joke!)

The pram is now full of toys again. I over reacted lastnight. I understand & accept the nature of the two meetings. Little OOFERS are more than welcome @ York. Any music will be played quietly in the gazebo & will be turned down or off should disturb anyone. It's not a rowdy meet. I understand OOF dog e dogs (WOOFS?) are welcome as well.
Lastly apologies for lastnights gob overdrive. I'm usually a happy chappie but can hold my hands up when i behave like a c*ck!

P.S. Just re read a pm from LK. I hope none of you thought i was trying to include music @ Newent. Newent is established & i'd adhere to any rules without question. I was only talking about York!

i think i should apologise for causing such disruption to the forum for this thread about the meets. you all enjoy meets and they all seem to be good for all especially familes and the friendship they have created amongst you all, and id like to come one day. i dont want to cause disagreements that will change peoples minds about going in the future. so i i do apologise to you all for the way i put the initial first post up about this.  :-[

No worries Guy... I wasn't trying to say no music at meets... Just expressing the view that when I go on holiday, camping or otherwise, I don't like hearing other peoples music! We have the radio, which is on so quietly we can barely hear it, and gets turned down if we can hear it outside the caravan :y :y :y

As for York... If it's an established tradition (from last time I understand) to have some quiet background music then I see no real problems with that because there's no-one else to disturb :y :y
