Title: Interesting - Cam profiles
Post by: Marks DTM Calib on 20 February 2009, 14:53:55
Did a quick measurement on the A and G cams out of a 3.0 V6.

The profiles are as follows:

You will note that the G cam has the same lift but has a longer duration!

Not much difference other than that!

The question is how much of a difference that would make  :-/

Quite a bit on the inlet, much less so on the exhaust

Longer duration is better than more lift.
Too much overlap though will result in very 'lumpy' idle speed, and an 'unsociable' drive at low mph.

Elementary, the G cams hold the valve open longer.....and hence more air can get in easier

I consider it like necking my favourite nectar...  ...the longer and wider my gob is open, the more efficiently the glass is ready for the next....
