IPA green in bottles forget tinnies for real beer, Ruddles & Hobgoblin are a good starting point. Although it's a stout don't forget the good old Newcastle Brown Ale (dog).
& yes it is fine to chill them. The days of warm ale are long gone. :y

Wadworths : 6X
Arkells : Winter Warmer
Courage : Directors
Greene King : Abbots Ale
Archers : Supermarine

There are literaly hundreds of "real ales" that actually taste of hops and barley ... not pre-made frozen fizz

CAMRA has some good books and information

http://www.camra.org.uk/home.aspx

:)

My vote in for Fursty Ferrett...and i'm a Stout drinker normally.  If you're an ex-Lager drinker, then one of the Pale Ales maybe?  Marstons Double Drop?

If in a pub...well, depends on the brewery tied to that pub!

Defo stick to pale or light ales if coming off the lager. Some of the others you almost have to chew the goldfish out of.
Good to see you've given up the Boy's Bitter. Stick at it, you'll find what you like & go from there. :y

Told by who ???  What, apart from the social insinuations, is the problem with lager ???  Personally, can't beat a nice chilled cider on a hot sunny day.  Gave up on Guiness after one of those promotion nights where all the prizes were Guiness .... Lordy, was I ill !!!!!

Shame you don't live in Leicester. There's a small off license, called " the Offie"  http://www.the-offie.co.uk/

He has over 500 different kinds of beer. You could try one a night till you found one you liked, mind you the process will take you over a year. I started once, but lost track about half way through !  ;D

Not so keen on bottled real ale. It loses something IMHO. Fortunately I have this place within walking distance: http://www.triplefff.com/Brewery/beers.htm and they will sell you bright or sedimented ale in any receptable you care to present. :y

Also just found a Christmas present I'd forgotten about while tidying up today - A 40 pint brew kit (Woodforde's great eastern) so guess what I'll be up to later?

Generally prefer Pale ales or golden bitters rather than ruby red/dark bitters. Having said that I do like Newcastle Brown. Find that the lighter coloured beers give a less severe hangover!
